(6,377 posts)He's the best chance to take Trump out. If the country was further left leaning, I'd probably want Warren because I do really like her. But I don't think Indy's/Moderates will flock to her like they will with Biden.

(42 posts)I so disagree. I would vote for him, if he got the nomination, however I would much rather vote for Warren, Harris, even Saunders. Someone who really thinks that he can work with the Republicans (Mitch?), where no-one else has been able to do, is, I think, living in la-la land. Let's put our energy into nominating, and electing, a Mitch Manager and someone who sees clearly, and, has a plan.

(6,377 posts)I would LOVE to turn out young Dems, but history suggests no matter who you nominate, youth isn't going to come out unless you have an Obama-like candidate. And as much as I love Warren, she doesn't have you youthfulness Obama did in 2008 that really helped him with young voters. That's why Obama was so amazing, he got the youth vote out AND independents/moderates.
Meanwhile, those middle-age Indys/Moderates turn out in strong numbers every election, and they really like Biden. Basically, I have more faith in indys/moderates turning out for Biden than young voters turning out for anybody.

(58,785 posts)the strange groupings. The terminology pundits and political manipulators are using is very deceptive. There is no political ideology of moderate, people either fall on the liberal or the conservative side.
The Democratic Party is the liberal party. The Republican Party is the conservative party. Indies lean one way or the other.
There are only 27 conservative blue dogs in the house, out of 235 Democrats, and even those conservatives tend to be overall at least mildly liberal socially and moderately progressive economically, reflecting their constituencies. The other 208 are virtually all liberals of various degrees, and by definition they're ALL progressive.
And the answer to your question is in that. First you serve and grow your large, diverse base. Strong and moderate-degree liberal voters, including most of those the media are calling progressives because they currently like Warren or Sanders, are basically strong Democrats and aren't going anywhere. We're good.
Left-leaning indies of course are far less reliable voters, no one's base. But the combo of the Republicans poking them with sharp sticks and our plans to build a better America drew much larger numbers to the polls, so we hope to see even more from them in 2020.
Same for those young Dems who haven't yet engaged. Most young Dems will become either solid liberal progressive Democratic voters or left-leaning indies who vote Democrat when they bother to vote. Mercifully, few people of any age are prone to extreme ideology.
