Not important, but I'm curious.

I did a Google Images search on Warren. I wanted to know if she ever wore anything but black apart from her sweater. Answer is no. Same is true if she's wearing a jacket. The palette for suits and jackets and sweaters is very, very limited. And she always has the same neckline, whether scooped or Vneck.

My question. Is she just bored with clothing? Or did some media/image consultant encourage her to get "a look" and stick with it?

I think it was on NPR but I wouldn't swear to that.

Essentially she doesn't want to spend a lot of time on things like clothing decisions nor does she want how she dresses become the story, so she has the basic outfit so there is no question what she will be wearing nor will it be the story of the day.

I will try to look for a reference.

Well I can't find what I want - someone may find it. Could have been Hartmann or Stephanie Miller show.

I wanted to discuss this without sounding critical or petty about her clothing.

I like the look, but I am a little disappointed that it is always the same.
I understand it is really convenient for traveling ,but maybe for a special occasion like a debate she could do something a little more. maybe a white blose with a fancy collar and a different style jacket. Maybe just once a skirt?

She looks good, comfortable and business like .

all about convenience and practicality.

As I have gotten older, I have found myself doing the same thing - especially when I travel: packing a couple pairs of basic black pants that are comfortable; can go with anything and can be dressed up or down - for either formal or casual occasions. I too vary the tops/jackets, etc. But there are certain tops that I favor, so yes, I probably look pretty much the same too.

But frankly, I love the freedom.

In this way, she can concentrate on the essentials: her campaign, her message, no worries about runs in hose or tights, etc. And if there are spills, etc., they don't show up as much on black.

she has found an outfit that works in different situations. whether she is in the Senate, political campaign event or just out to eat at casual or formal place or just going for a walk.

and it's comfortable. she could go home and not have to worry about changing into something more comfortable.

i have read how you can save a lot of time and focus on more imporant things if you wear the same clothes and eat the same things most of the time.

While I wear lots of different things, I have a go to outfit that I frequently fall back on. Black top, black pants and many different brightly colored jackets and interesting jewelry. It looks professional, can be dressed up or dressed down, packs easily and doesn't require a lot of attention everyday. Instead of worrying about what I'm going to wear, and think about what I'm going to do.

I love that Warren does that and she always looks great!

37. She probably realized that she had WAY more public appearances
Tue Sep 17, 2019, 08:58 PM
Sep 2019

than she had a wardrobe budget. Maybe campaigning for Senate. Maybe earlier than that, back when she was teaching.

Rachel Maddow is one of a scant few who can wear the same thing every day and get away with it, but then again, we very rarely see her from head to toe because she sits behind an anchor desk.

I did the same thing that Warren does when I was still working, and spent literately years covering the Oscars and Emmys and whatever else was a bigtime you-gotta-dress-up event. Sheesh, unless you’re an A-level network news star or host of “Entertainment Tonight” or had a big budget for on-camera clothes (or nowadays, some designer will dress you just for the publicity and the bragging rights), you have to be creative.

Easiest trick is to wear something entirely unremarkable underneath a nice jacket. I wore the same plain black short-sleeved top and plain black pants for most of my career, and just varied the jacket. Usually blazer or cardigan, plain cut and fabric, jewel color, or maybe black with some beads. My wardrobe was cheap by comparison! If the basics stay clean and well-kept, they’ll last you as long as you need! Except I had two of the black tops because they got more frequent wear.

But all you need is the jacket. Preferably one that A) catches the eye and B) is tasteful at the same time. Everybody will notice the jacket and not notice the rest of the outfit. And then she starts talking and your attention shifts. Jackie Onassis was famous for buying in bulk, if she found some garment that really worked for her, in multiple situations. She’d get something in duplicate or she’d get it in multiple colors.

And Lordy the lengths some of my female colleagues went to, to look proper for the Oscars. Elegant gowns and flattering evening fashions. Hair and makeup perfect. Nobody saw us backstage in the press area. Heck, nobody saw any of the assistants, runners, or the food servers either! But we ALL had to dress up. It was mandatory.

So Elizabeth Warren wears professional outfits befitting her stature on the political stage. She’s figured out a practical solution to having to look good, smart, professional, serious, and credible as a candidate for President of the United States. She’s got her work clothes figured out. She can address many kinds of audiences except for dressy banquets and such. She can be on her feet all day, meeting people, shaking hands, bending over to some little kid or a visitor in a wheelchair. It doesn’t show much dirt or wrinkles. Should photograph nicely from any angle (concealing any figure flaws), and not too fancy or frilly or fussy to be an attention-getter/distraction itself. Etc.

How you dress gets noticed and it says things about you on a more subliminal, unspoken level. One that you FEEL. It underscores or enhances, or can help repair your image. It leaves an impression. It says things about you. Remember, most of America processes information visually! Nancy Reagan wore skirted suits of which the fabric was usually some sort of knit. Why? Because it never wrinkled! And she wanted to look perfect for his public.
