NYT's Herndon & Nate Silver on whiteness of early-primary states as a progressive talking point

This had started with a tweet from Steve Kornacki on the NBC/WSJ poll resuts, and Biden's massive lead with black voters as opposed to Warren's narrow lead with white voters.

Comment on this from Astead Herndon of the NYT:

Though the whiteness of the early primary states is a favorite talking point for progressives, it is that state order that gives them the best shot of dislodging Biden's vice grip on black votes, and thus breaking the nomination process open

Nate Silver responding to Herndon's tweet:

idk seems like progressives are talking a lot less about the whiteness of the early primary states now they realize it could help Warren
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

is more of a moderate wing talking point, just like it was in 2016 with the "black firewall," a reductive phrase that was frequently used.

Warren's support from black voters has improved from low single digits to 13%. Interesting that she leads among Latinx voters.

The polling is of greater interest this time than the analysis, for sure.
