Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumChuck Schumer unaware that Booker and Harris have joined Beto and 52% of the country in supporting
mandatory gun buyback. With wimpy Democrats like Senator Schumer and Senator Coons, who have let the Republicans and the NRA dictate the terms of the debate, no wonder nothing has gotten done on gun violence in the last 30 years.

(31,688 posts)Think - outside of Rochester. Not Surprised Schumer would take this approach. He has to run again in 2022 - and it could hurt him in the 518, 315, and rural areas around Rochester and Buffalo.

(2,753 posts)leaving Beto out to dry, and failing to recognize that multiple Senators running for President share Beto's view and the majority of Americans (52% according to ABC/Washington Post poll last week) do as well. I'm just responding in kind.

(67,782 posts)...of what he said, or if he even said it at all?
It also could have been used as a "figure of speech" and not a definitive quote - i.e., like "I don't know anyone who was that crazy..." - haven't we all said things like that?
Even your subject line, "Chuck Schumer unaware...." didn't appear in the article. On top of that, there is absolutely NO mention of a gun buy-back in the article.
Finally, none of tweets you posted mention gun buy-back!
I'm sorry, I don't agree with the premise of your OP.

(2,753 posts)We don't always see the question proposed in the article, but Schumer's answer is quite clear that this is what he was asked about. Nothing in the tweet or this article below suggests Schumer was taken out of context or was not talking about Beto's gun buyback proposal.

(32,567 posts)is just nuts to me. I searched and couldn't find a state by state breakdown of gun / assault weapon support. That really needs to be done so we can determine, once and for all, if the rightwing talking point that "grabbing guns = unelectable" is even true.
