Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThese state polls might move me from Warren to Biden.
I am more liberal than Biden.
Im actually more liberal than Warren.
I support her for many of her policies and because our country is way past due for a woman.
However, my overwhelming concern for our democracy is ridding the country of Trump.
I simply cant fathom the amount of damage and theft he could accomplish by 2024.
So, ELECTABILITY is number one with me.
Number two for me is to have a Prez nominee that can help us in some key states to take back the Senate and take the Turtles 🐢 reign of terror away.
The biggest opportunities for us to flip the expected needed four seats are in Colorado, Arizona, NCarolina, and Maine.
The most important swing states to win the Presidency are to bring back home to the blue side:
Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and to possibly turn these purple ones: NCarolina, Florida, Iowa (and possibly even the longer shots, the slightly red: Arizona, Ohio, Georgia, Texas).
So, once we winnow the Dem primary field in February or March, I will be keeping a very keen eye out of polling numbers in the states listed above.
If theres a big difference in Bidens numbers and Warrens numbers, I could very well Vote with my head for Biden in my states March primary. But, if those numbers are relatively close, I will vote with my heart for Warren.
Does anybody feel the way that I do?
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(3,490 posts)My heart is with the truly progressive policies, my head is with what Im sure is the best chance to win. Ridding ourselves of this cancer is the only thing that matters. As much as I like her, I just dont think Warren can repair the blue wall. Joe can.

(11,549 posts)So much can change between now and then. Its a little early, still, as I see it. To paraphrase Rachel, vote your heart in the primary and vote blue, no matter who, in the general.

Biden's in my signature because he polls so well in those swing states. I was with Beto early on because I thought he'd bring Texas into battleground, but I don't see that happening now.
For me it's all about the EC.

(630 posts)If Warren's rise shows itself in swing state polling, my politics make me inclined to support her over Biden (specifically on farm policy, climate and taking on income inequality), but I'm not willing to risk a strong general election position against trump over it.

(39,369 posts)So youre right to wait until Feb or March. Four months is a lifetime in politics and you could very well have a new set of choices by then.

(8,144 posts)candidate. Most important, given the perilous world situation, Biden is the only candidate
with heavy foreign policy knowledge and experience plus world-stage stature.
And yes, I think hes electable.
But above all, I believe he has framed this election more profoundly than the rest of the field: a struggle for the soul of America.
Finally, I find the depth of character he expresses in his messaging a compelling feature. Indeed, loss can give greater vision.
So with Biden, my heart and mind is in sync.
Hes a true liberal. I am not as concerned with the degree to which he is.

(23 posts)... Democrats should feel totally comfortable taking a hard look at the candidate(s) they think will make the best President, and not just the one they think has the best chance of beating Trump.
There's lots of time left.

(11,986 posts)...what the GE polling looks like in February+. I won't necessarily pick the one who looks very best in those polls (polls don't really offer that level of precision anyway), but it will have to be someone at least close to that. If any candidate is WAY ahead in these metrics, s/he probably gets my vote. If a few are close, I'll pick my favorite of those few.
There is only one candidate I will refuse to vote for in the primary, but she won't be a leading contender anyway, unless she can get there by thought power.

(10,870 posts)I dont want our new Prez stuck with Moscow Mitch turtle 🐢 MCConnell and a GOP majority tied like a noose around the neck like Obama had to deal with.
Thats why I will really watch the Senate races closely.

(191 posts)He's really the only Dem candidate to practically guarantee a flip of a Trump state. Joe is like a hometown boy in PA and he's very popular there. So after PA, he will definitely do good in MI, OH, and WI.
I think if he chose Abrams as his VP, he may also cause GA to flip.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(41,832 posts)If I could wave my magic wand, I'd love all the programs of Warren or Bernie, but I am also a pragmatic progressive.
I realize that I am a minority. Not everyone believes as I do.
Biden is someone who is a liberal. He is for the same things I'm for and he can actually get some good things done.
AND... big for me is his foreign policy experience and his experience in the running of the executive branch.
LOL - and I love Jill Biden.

(13,964 posts)He currently trounces Donald Trump in the polls. My second choice is Warren and if the polls show her increasing her lead against Trump, I could easily switch.
