Beto still beating Trump in Texas & 49.1% support for mandatory buybacks vs 28.5% oppose

?s=20

Looking at the www.uttyler.edu/... [pdf], the breakdown on mandatory buyback was 33.4% strongly support, 15.7% support, 17.6% neutral, 8.7% oppose, 19.8% strongly oppose, 4.8% aren't sure. So net 49.1% support, 28.5% oppose.

It was reasonable to think the proposal might be problematic, but I think he’s been very skilled in handling it and has changed minds. Good for him and good for everyone.

including a ban on current weapons of war, just became more of the compromise position. The Overton window has shifted.

New Rassmussen poll also shows majority support for Beto's position

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/washington-secrets/gun-shock-majority-support-mandatory-buybacks-of-ar-15s

"Scott Rasmussen just posted results of his latest poll and found that 51% of voters at least somewhat favor a mandatory buyback while 36% are opposed."

You are not going to get essentially half of Texas going for mandatory buybacks, at least not if your polling is accurate.

Maybe when Beto has to fold up his tent and go home, he can spend his time working on the Texas Legislature to have a mandatory buyback program there. If it can be done in Texas, then there's a chance in hell that it can be done nationally.

we're not got to get much of anything done.

Sure Beto might not win, but whoever does would be wise to put him on the ticket for Texas's 38 electoral votes alone, and this poll shows Beto as the most electable there.

11. If Kamala Harris wins
Thu Sep 19, 2019, 07:04 PM
Sep 2019

then she might put him on the ticket. Maybe.

If anyone else wins the nomination, then Beto strikes out on either race or gender.

And, if I never ever expected him to win the nomination, my attitude is not "defeatist". It's realistic.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Maybe you should rethink your assumptions

In addition to the polls mentioned above, here is the one from ABC https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/10-fear-mass-shooting-gun-laws-poll/story?id=65414785 showing 52% national support.

Beto has been leading on this issue, reframing the conversation instead of letting the NRA do it. And either he was attuned to public opinion without the polls or he's been successfully shaping public opinion.

With regard to Texas and nationally, a key swing demographic is suburban moms. They are very open to Beto's position. Better political positioning than trying to appease weapons of war proponents

if mandatory buybacks are for real, then get them enacted in the states. Bonus points if it happens in a red state.
