Excited Democrats began gathering at Water Works Park early Saturday morning in anticipation of the largest Iowa caucus event so far this cycle: the Polk County Steak Fry.
Polk County Democrats' chairman Sean Bagniewski said organizers had sold more than 12,000 tickets, purchased more than 10,500 steaks (plus vegan options for vegan candidates U.S. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii) and counted roughly 18,000 candidate signs scattered across the park.
"This is the biggest steak fry in history," Bagniewski said.
Candidates staked out rally sites across the park where their supporters have gathered to wave signs, chant, dance and cheer.
Supporters for U.S. Sens. Kamala Harris of California and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota stood at the entrance of the park and chanted in unison, "It's time for a woman in the White House!"
Seventeen candidates will each be given 10 minutes to speak. The only major candidate not in attendance is former U.S. Rep. John Delaney of Maryland, who is attending his daughter's wedding...............................
