Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forum* New Poll * Biden extends lead over Warren, Sanders: Biden 31%, Sanders 16%, Warren 14%, Harris 5%
Former Vice President Joe Biden has extended his lead over progressive rivals Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the latest Hill-HarrisX poll released on Monday.
The poll of likely Democratic and independent voters found that 31 percent support Biden for president, a 4-point increase from the last time the poll was conducted in late August.
Sanders came in second with 16 percent, while Warren followed in third place with 14 percent.
Though still within the margin of error, this uptick in support for Biden is a positive for a campaign that is trying to hold off Warren.

But I don't think Biden will get half. Maybe 30%. Maybe.

I seriously doubt that the makeup of the Super Delegates would find many voting for a candidate that drops in for a few months to become a Democrat or someone who has been in elective office for a little more than six years.

(2,461 posts)you also know that people at large vote, or stay home, at their own discretion.
I don't think calling people 'not-real Democrats' will help with any inclusiveness. In fact, it probably would be wise to court the Independent voter.

(67,782 posts)....second and third place positions, some of those thirds (or even seconds) not even getting to 15%, Biden will be getting 30%+.
In fact as some states are going, Biden will sweep all the delegates.

(560 posts)that Liz Warren had already made appointments to choose drapes for the Oval Office. Those of us who are Biden supporters know he's no sure thing, but the media-driven narrative and many Warren supporters act as though she's on the verge of sewing this up.
That's simply not the case. Any two-point bump for Warren is treated like a "surge," yet Joe is breaking even in states that should play to Warren's demographic strengths and he's led literally every national poll save one outlier since entering the race.
Also, I'm not a Bernie fan, but if you look at the national polls, Warren and Sanders actually switch positions quite often, yet Sanders is somehow in a death spiral while Warren is inevitable.
That's the power of media with agendas other than informing the public and holding our leaders accountable.

(67,782 posts)It's like that poll last week that was used to say that Biden is collapsing, even though he increased his lead over his closest rival by two points.

(2,014 posts)What matters? Iowa. New Hampshire. Nevada. South Carolina. Super Tuesday states. There, the voters are getting down to brass tacks. It doesnt matter what a nationwide poll says, when it doesnt reflect the votes of those who get first crack at the booth or caucus. Booker, another fave of mine, knows that. He considers Iowa, not vague national polling, do or die even for fundraising.
Right now its a Biden/Warren race in Iowa, with Bernie a distant third. Thats what matters.

(15,551 posts)The media will generate a horse race narrative that could significantly increase (or deplete) a candidate's perceived momentum and perceived electability.
Currently, Biden is only projected to win in the 4th primary in SC; if he loses the first three contests, or worse yet, places below 2nd place in any of them, all bets are off for Super Tuesday...

continues to lead and has picked up a bit of steam. Warren can surge, shine, all manner of magical
and subjective feats, but she is not in the lead at this time, period.
