What a disgrace that it takes a 16-year-old to tell world leaders what they won't acknowledge:
What does that even mean? Are we to believe that no world leader has acknowledged climate change before? Is this a suggestion that ONLY this young woman has ever been the one to "tell world leaders" about climate change, its causes and consequences.

the face of the generation that actually will be impacted to a degree that almost no one in a world leadership role will experience.

Anyone who's head of a country, or large corporation, is most likely in their 40's at the youngest, and probably a couple of decades older. She will be 40 or 40 when Trump, Putin and Xi are long buried.

Thank you. Yes, I understand who she is and what she represents... she's an impressive young woman. I admire her very much.

What I take issue with is how the BS campaign appears to be grabbing on to her coattails with the insinuation that somehow she's the "first" to do or say anything... and that "nobody" was aware prior to her. And while it's nice to flatter and compliment and praise her... it serves no good purpose for BS to simply ignore the hard work of all who came before, or to pretend that no world leaders care about this issue. The subtext, of course, is that he (BS) is the "only" one who cares enough, and that's not true either.

Sometimes a movement needs a face. Or an image. It's not that others haven't done a lot of good work, it's that human being pay more attention when something can be symbolized in one image, or person. At least that's my take. It's one thing to see yet another middle aged white male in a $3K suit stating dry facts, but a pretty young girl genuinely fearful for her future is a lot more powerful as far as the media and how our emotions work. Of course she's not saying anything Al Gore didn't before she was even born....

Reminds me of the old joke about the society maven who tells her surgeon:

"It's like magic, doctor! My sister criticized me the other day for coming to see you so much; but I reminded her that they've proven that every procedure takes 7 years off!"

"Well," said the doctor, "if that's so, you musn't have even been born!"

I think BS actually hinders her efforts when he tries to characterize them in the way he did. Her words are powerful... but she's clearly not the only one to say it. And BS is wrong in his characterization that "world leaders won't acknowledge" the existence-of, causes, effects, consequences of climate change. That's simply not true. BS is basically "photo-bombing" her moment on the world stage.

It has nothing to do with whether I "like" BS or not... that's irrelevant. Instead it's about how his efforts to grab on to her coattails only diminishes himself and distracts from her message. He wants to bask in the spotlight that someone ELSE deserves by making false characterizations. He's photo-bombing her biggest moment to date.

It really serves no good purpose to try and distract from that by trying to make it about me and whether or not you believe I "like" or dislike BS. Tactics like that only serve to reinforce the fact that someone is arguing from a position of weakness. It also a waste of time to try and change the subject by making distinctions between Greta and Nancy Pelosi.

No, that's not what he's doing. It's also not about Pelosi. It's also not about whether I like or dislike BS. It's not about our "modern capitalistic system" either. Changing the subject will not change my arguments about BS trying to photo-bomb Greta and get in on her spotlight with his disingenuous characterizations that she's the ONLY person with this message, and that NO other politicians care about climate change. You know perfectly well that these things simply aren't true.

I don't know how you get Bernie grabbing onto coattails for simply agreeing with her statements.
There's nothing more I can do to explain it to you other than to recommend that you start at the beginning. I've repeated myself more than once already. Beyond that, if you still don't understand, then it's not my problem and you're on your own.

I young love Greta. Bernie composed a tweet designed to reinforce her genius without overshadowing it so that no one could accuse him of pandering. I found his tweet excellent, leaving the focus where it belonged.

Besides, he's right that the youth have the greatest passion for bold action proportional to the gravity of the threat of climate change along with the horrifyingly brief time window to act given that we have accomplished far too little since Greta was born and have raced in the wrong direction since tRump took the oath (during which he lied through his teeth).
