(3,649 posts)His inability to change his campaign style, reluctance to answer questions without straying too far from his stump speech (during debates, he does much better in town halls), and his language in communicating his positions (tends to be aggressive) can be and are turnoffs for people. In my opinion, it's why he hasn't been able to expand his base. Notice, however, none of these things are related to his ideology and positions on the issues, which is ultimately more important. People vote with their emotions and would rather vote for someone like Warren who is similar in terms of policy but can be more personable and better at communicating her message.

(42,862 posts)He's obviously NOT vying for the VP slot, nor a position on the cabinet. Also, he's not priming himself for a THIRD run in 2028... so I think the best choice for BS is to just go ahead and get OUT of the race so that the party and the country can unify behind one of the two candidates who WILL end up being our party's choice.
PS: Those numbers from South Carolina are HUMILIATING.

(1,812 posts)You are mainly referring to polls conducted by Tel Research and Goucher College .In SC voters aged 18-44 comprise only 28% of their sample - Bernie's strength . They comprised 35% of the Primary Vote in 2016 ......By contrast voters 65 years and older comprise 39% of their sample - A Bernie weakness . What happened during the 2016 SC Democratic Primary ? . Voters 65+ comprised 18% of the primary vote In 2018, we saw more participation by young people and that trend is likely to increase even in 2020 If Bernie was in collapse mode , that would be reflected in the National polls .Nationally Emerson has Bernie at 22% , Quinnipiac 16 % YouGuv 16% ..He is slightly up in the latter two and slightly down in the former ..
