He comes from a well known political family, is active military or a Vet, is a sitting State Senator. His family has as much if not more prominence in that state than Tulsi's have. Thu Sep 26, 2019, 07:30 PM
Sep 2019

We probably don't know all the reasons Gabbard may have developed more national support than some very fine and impressive candidates. But at least initially it was largely arising from Sanders encouraging his supporters to see the DNC as their biggest enemy, instead of the Republicans, and Gabbard attacking the DNC on national TV, etcetera, both messages strongly augmented by Russia's cyber warfare.

In any case, even though Sanders distanced from her after she noisily endorsed him, in 2020 Gabbard will bring a bunch of outsider money to her Hawaiian district race. This interference, much of it resulting from unfortunate delusions that have nothing to do with this district's interests, may possibly overwhelm constituents trying to pick their representative. That's how McConnell keeps getting reelected in spite of always betraying his constituency -- flood the races with money.

As for Cha's OP, that's my best guess for why Gabbard ran as a Democrat in the first place. And best of luck to him.

She is able to win because she spends a lot of money on name recognition, signs all over the place. Her opponents have been outspent and not well known. She lacks substance, and the crowds at her gatherings don’t seem inspired or excited. Now that she is on the national stage, more people will see her, but that may work against her here at home. It doesn't change the fact that Gabbard voted against Trump's position more often. My point being that, if the idea behind the OP is that her constituents will vote her out because they are more anti-Trump than she is, she's actually very anti-Trump even when compared to many other Dems like Beto... but yes, EXCEPT for her stand on impeachment. Whether nothing else matters, I don't know. It's also possible that her own position on that will shift as more comes out. As of now, she is one of 16 Dem house members who have not yet crossed that line.
