Julian Castro warns supporters it'll be "the end of my campaign" if he doesn't qualify for November

by Patrick Svitek, Texas Tribune

Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro is warning supporters that his campaign will be over if he does not qualify for the November debate.

"I don’t say this lightly: If I don’t make the next debate stage, it will be the end of my campaign," Castro wrote in a fundraising email Thursday.

The email sought donations for ads to help him reach the new polling threshold: 3% in four national polls or 5% in two surveys from the first four early voting states. Castro has already met the donor requirement of 165,000 individuals but hasn't met the polling requirement — or even come close.

Castro, the former U.S. housing secretary and San Antonio mayor, told supporters the polling threshold is "designed to cut candidates like me from the running," arguing it benefits wealthier candidates who can afford to air ads to boost their numbers.

Based upon their policy ideas. If they do, they will move forward if not apparently they are not what the majority believe to be the best choice. At some point the field will have to narrow and they all know that going in.

It doesn't look like Booker, Castro, or Klobuchar are going to develop a strong enough following to keep going and I also admit it looks doubtful for Harris, O'Rourke, and Buttigieg. The last three have enough money in their campaigns that they can probably survive until Super Tuesday in the beginning of March. While some of Yang's ideas are intriguing and he is rising in the polls, I doubt that he can be considered as a likely choice either.

That leaves Biden, Sanders and Warren to choose from. All three should survive through Super Tuesday, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of them has to leave the race before April. That's about as far as I will go regarding predictions. May the best man or woman win.

I think as Yang gets more coverage and seems to raise some awareness, his lot improves. Time will tell as to how it all ends up and really no one expected a guy with a funny sounding name to be the 44th President.

and pushing hard to make the best showing they can. Some may be whining, some may be just the usual "we gotta raise more money" stuff.

In either case I have picked my guy and will do another donation on 9/30 to his campaign.

He's smart. He's made his case... his hat is in the ring for VP or a cabinet position, and he understands that it serves no good purpose (other than vanity) for ANY candidate to remain beyond the point where their ranking is even lower than "2nd tier" and their chances are even longer than "long shot".

I've always been impressed by him.
