Kamala Harris Calls For Formal Impeachment Inquiry Into Brett Kavanaugh

Presidential contender Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) called for a formal impeachment inquiry into Brett Kavanaugh on Friday in the wake of a new sexual misconduct claim against the Supreme Court justice.

“I write to urge the House Judiciary Committee to take appropriate action to investigate recent reports about Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and to hold Mr. Kavanaugh accountable for his prior conduct and testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee,” Harris wrote in a letter, dated Sept. 17, to the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.).

Harris argued in her letter to Nadler and her essay for Elle that this fourth accusation suggests the judge may have lied under oath and that the original investigation into these claims was not sufficient enough.

“If we want to live in a country where women are believed and given access to the justice they deserve, we must roll up our sleeves and get to work holding our leaders accountable,” Harris wrote. “Especially those who serve on the highest court in our land.”

Although the House Judiciary Committee is “rightfully busy” with the recent impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, Harris wrote, the country “shouldn’t let a crowded schedule get in the way of justice.”

I just see more negatives of making this an issue at this time. It has the potential of taking the media spotlight off of Trump's malfeasance when we need the media to drill into people's heads that Trump used foreign aid to solicit foreign interference on our elections.

What this said to me was:

The country "shouldn't let a crowded schedule get in the way of my campaign opportunities."

Much of this country has a hard enough time walking and chewing gum, which is exacerbated by the tribalism, misinformation and propaganda leading them astray.

This is too important not to warrant everyone's complete attention.

the so-called victim denied her victimhood (at least according to reports, but since hearsay = ironclad fact these days ...). She didn't want to be interviewed before, and the only reason anybody has for wanting to compel her testimony is politics. Not out of respect for a woman, but out of contempt for a man. In fact, contempt for a man is leading to contempt for a woman. Push it, and it'll help to make her a hero for some and an enemy for others, and instead of allowing her to lead the life she wants or has chosen to lead it'll wind up ruining her life. (Hey, I guess we can sacrifice her for a Cause.)

So there was a longtime Kavanaugh foe remembering through an alcohol-induced haze something remarkably like another widely reported event. And then defenders (of the foe) saying that obviously the poor woman couldn't remember because she'd been drinking. The only reason to be biased in favor of the man making the accusations is because it suits the narrative. In other words, good ol' human confirmation bias.

*That's* the basis for the latest round of accusations.

If she changes her mind, that's her choice. If it's not, don't let others humiliate and alienate her for their long-standing purposes.

What the hell is she thinking? I am removing her from my list of primary candidate's to consider- this shows poor political instincts to me.

There is even less chance that boof boy will be impeached than the traitor-in-chief. It will help unify the Republicans.

If the Republicans get the house back, what is to stop them from trying this? If we didn't do it with Clarence Thomas, why the hell are we doing it now?

Nope, bad idea, both in the short term and in the long term.

We all know that even if impeached, trump won't be removed, but at least we have the argument that an impeachment inquiry will hurt him in 2020; impeaching a SCOTUS justice, who likewise won't be removed but isn't up for re-election and isn't even the sleaziest of the bunch is just a bad move, and like ending the filibuster can come back to really hurt.

Moscow Mitch was going to end the filibuster first chance he got if we had returned the favor and started blocking all of his nominations by filibuster. I think Harry Reid did the right thing by ending it when he did. Otherwise we would have even more Republican judges.
