Keep in Mind That Trump World Is Trying to Blast Warren, But Can't

In all the headlines, it may seem that Trump is only interested in one candidate. But that simply is not the case.

Republicans are wondering why there is so little critical coverage of the senator and why the stories out there are making next to no dent.

“We all push out the bad Warren stories but they don’t go very far,” one Republican strategist said.

The frustration Republicans are beginning to feel about Warren’s non-stick nature was picked up repeatedly in interviews with 10 Republicans, including Trump campaign and White House officials, associates of the president, and other GOP operatives with knowledge of the situation.

These sources stressed that the anti-Warren effort within GOP circles hadn’t fallen off since the DNA snafu. Indeed, everyone from officials on Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, to the Republican National Committee, to a select group of opposition researchers have been sifting through her record in search of vulnerabilities.

But with few punches landing, the worry is that Trump may have already taken his best shot, and that Warren will end up looking increasingly formidable for having bounced back.

“Sure the Republican base will ultimately loathe Warren, but she doesn’t inspire the same kind of historic vitriol that Hillary Clinton did,” a separate Republican strategist said.

Good to see you.

I'm always drawn to authenticity, which is what attracted me to Joe years ago. Warren and Biden are my top two favorites. If Joe wasn't running, it would be Warren as #1. Right now I'd be happy with either of them as our nominee (or both as a ticket).

We have a great selection this time, unlike 2016. I like having a lot of choices, it brings a lot of ideas to the table. Well with republicans, it just brought a lot more nuttery to the table, but with Democrats it can elevate the conversation.

Sat Sep 28, 2019, 09:36 AM
Sep 2019

Little Donnie's daddy made hundreds of millions by lying to Holocaust survivors in Brooklyn and Queens who (understandably) didn't want to rent from a German. Donnie repeated the lie for decades, including in The Art of the Deal.

Does he really think that he's going to beat Warren because she believed her parents' story about their elopement?

Warren gained nothing. Little Trump was a millionaire "landlord&quot on the books, at least) by 8-years-old. One of his daddy's Jewish tenants got Donnie out of the draft, and ultimately the "self-made" man pocketed $413 million from his daddy's real estate empire, built largely by renting to New York Jews as a "Swedish" man (who was previously arrested for refusing to leave a Memorial Day KKK rally).

I know one wealthy Wall St guy who registered as a Republican to vote against fuckface in the 2016 primary. He voted for Hillary in 2016. Thinks fuckface is a total moron and laughs at him nearly every day. He hates his autocratic nature and grew up in an autocratic country. Now he registered as a democrat to vote for Biden in the primaries and general. He did say that if Warren won the primary, he would grudgingly vote for fuckface because of the wealth tax (he is probably worth about $50M now, but has two businesses that might make him worth 500M in a few years). He did say in his gentle way (he is a physicist and has that gentle scientist’s demeanor) that he “likes his Democrats corrupt which is why I like Biden.”

Trump is facing impeachment about a phone call he made about Biden. It is not surprising that he is making the case against Biden.

In fact, he would want to make his typical false equivalency case - it plays very well with his base. It would be much more difficult to face two fronts against Warren. He would have to deal with the Biden-impeachment thing on one hand, but also go against someone completely different running an anti-corruption campaign.

The false equivalency argument (lie) would be useless against Warren. On the debate stage, she won't stand for any of his chicanery. She has a lazer-sharp mind that cuts through the crap. She's going to tear him apart, absolutely shredding him.

Some Warren critics here say she is rising because she doesn't take the heat that Biden and Sanders and others do. But apparently the Republicans are trying just as hard to smear Warren and it doesn't stick.

The final nominee will, of course, be subjected to even more attacks. It's important to know that it seems like they're finding it very hard to go much beyond calling Warren "Pocahontas" and not for lack of trying.

One of the best things about Obama's campaign was they couldn't find anything but a silly property line dispute, and rev Wright. He was so squeaky clean that all they could come up with was a lie about where he was born. It worked to some effect because the kernels of truth (foreign sounding name and African father) were there. But didn't have nearly the power of emails or Benghazi because there was also something to be outraged about even if there was no wrong doing to be found. Deaths of US citizens is always a hot button and many of us had been suspicious and outraged upon learning about the email habits of Powell and Rice.
With Warren, they've got nothing but a heritage claim based on family lore that white people frequently adopt with and without solid facts. The DNA test wasn't great but it was one of very few missteps. Thus far, I see nothing but policy disagreement as arguments against her, and that is the best kind of candidate.

Nobody does. Clinton was under attack for a quarter of a century. That's one of the reasons I'm fairly optimistic about 2020. Democrats just need to realize that the key is boosting turnout among the base (primarily POC, youth and white suburban women).

Anyway, the article from the OP is several weeks old, and I suspect Trumpworld is feeling more anxious about other matters at the moment.

Her life has been scandal free and I doubt there are any skeletons for them to find. Plus she doesn't care, she knows they can't touch her.

She's the exact opposite of him and that's glaringly obvious. She's not corrupt, not even a hint.
She practices what she preaches.

This is precisely why I'm supporting her.

That and because I think she's the best person to buckle
down and work hard to fix the mess he's made.

but you don't.

They haven't really tried to target her yet.

When they do -- if they see her as enough of a threat -- you'll see attacks on her from both the right (calling her a socialist, among other names) and from the left, going after her history as a Republican and things she said while a Republican. Those GOP-funded attacks from the left will probably be made to look as if they're coming from progressive groups, and then some of them will probably be picked up by Democrats supporting candidates to Warren's left.

Just as, when Republicans supporting an extremely racist and sexist president tried to attack Biden for supposedly being racist and sexist, less wary or more opportunistic supporters of other Democratic candidates seemed very happy to echo those attacks.

Warren does have a lot of supporters among MSM journalists, as Nate Silver has pointed out, and as Warren fan Dave Weigel admitted. Those journalists have spent a lot of time going after Biden, while Warren's been getting almost entirely favorable coverage (despite which she's still trailing Biden in most polls).

But once the Republicans really go after her, you'll see a difference in coverage.

These stories are only being pushed half-heartedly, because Trump and his allies want to be able to run against Sen. Warren. And while there is not a twenty-five year history of vilifying Warren like there was with Hillary Clinton, the GOP'ers will waste no time in demonizing her thoroughly after they have made sure that she has been nominated.

You'll see essentially no difference in the way they treat Sen. Warren from what they did with Secretary Clinton. Misogyny will rear its ugly head yet again.
