Yep, they are at it again, but there is a darn good chance that while you think you can identify them, but you are mistaken. Give them credit - they very sophisticated and can fool almost all of us. Best read the article

(23,295 posts)I manage our family business FB page and we've been getting Russian hottie "friend" requests daily for at least a couple of months. I decline them and report them as spam but they keep rolling in regardless. It's definitely a thing.

(31,261 posts)Why would a person become "friends" with a person that is not already a friend? When I meet new people that I like, I keep them outside the envelop of "friend" until I know more about them.

(35,932 posts)"friended" anyone who asked or was suggested.
I'm not their FB friend, either. It's also not just about who you know, it's who they know, people whose comments make no sense, and one wonders if they're even real accounts.
What I've noticed when I "Like" any of the Democratic candidates, the swarms of bots come in to tear up the threads. I've reported fake accounts over a hundred times since the last major election. It was an unspeakable evil mess when Clinton ran.
I've since learned to open new tabs, find their wall, examine all their posts and then hope FB will respond to my "fake account" or "harassment" or "spam" reports. They say they delete spam posts immediately.

(7,616 posts)Black African Africans not white South Africans. I think what happened was I friended one who liked one of my anti Trump shares and they just started rolling in.
Yikes, what have I done?
Haven't seen too much RW idiot stuff thrown my way yet other than this add for Epoch Times in YouTube videos or some BS survey "Do you approve of President Trump, blah, blah, blah.." I answered one "no" just one time and I got notice of a virus attack being repelled so no more of that. I have no fear they will brainwash me with their idiocy
I do see posts in comment sections of political blogs that are obviously Slavic or at least non English as a 1st language posters easily identified by their Trump humping and/or from their lack of articles and awkward syntax.
As long as I don't get fooled into downloading a virus I don't care because FB is the only way I know to keep up with all my friends, lovers and family as well as a few Groups I enjoy belonging to and participating in. I don't know how a business could survive not being on FB as unfortunate as that may or may not be.

(12,165 posts)It has devolved over the years into a right-wing meme sharing platform for middle age and older people. My cousin has gone insane and posts daily Trump devotionals, complete with a drawing of him in the Oval Office with Jesus standing behind him.
You can't reason with crazy, and it doesn't get much crazier than that.

(35,932 posts)list them in priority of view, you won't get any random thing; you'll get useful info. every day.
I get many good news sources like McClatchy, Mother Jones, EFF, Techdirt, Ars Technica, Unicorn Riot, Shaun King (BLM) SPLC, ACLU, PBS, NYT, Chris Hayes, Occupy Democrats, environmental groups, Crooks & Liars (written by lawyers lol) and our Democratic candidates, etc.
The downward slide of humanity can show up in the comments (usually in the candidates' threads), but generally these posts attract people with good questions, jokes and criticisms I learn from.
And then there's the ageist stereotype of FB being filled with old people, and just not a "cool" platform.
So there's that.

(5,648 posts)They may be Russian trolls, but if they are those accounts are meant eventually post conspiracy theories, etc. which will excite the deplorables and encourage then to vote.
The Russian operatives who use accounts to try to influence us and sow turmoil in our ranks to discourage voting will pretend to be one of us.
The same Russian troll might well be opperating many of both types of fake accounts. They have all of the time they need; this is their job and that is all that they do their entire shift.

(5,648 posts)For instance, a new FB algorithm limits the the number times a single post can be posted in multiple FB groups. This is very unlikely to bother a Russian operative who probably has open a large number of dJW FB profiles and can use those many aliases to post the same fake news in as many groups as he desires. However, it keeps legitimate FB users from posting legitimate articles in multiple groups. That is my definition of clueless.

(3,212 posts)But all of us have cut down on Facebook, except for jokes, lesbian support, and anti-Trump memes.
I have a couple of pro-Trumpers on my list, but I keep them around because they are funny on other topics.
And I admit I am into a couple of fetishes so there are those friends.
But most of people I haven't met personally are other lesbians. We help each other, and joke around. I've skyped, snapped, or facetimed with a few, of course. There are a few, like this Scottish lass I could like but she's too young. Early 20's. I'm almost 40, even if I don't look like it.
Also, My girl friend gave up Facebook before I met her. And she's perfect for me. We just had our first girlfriend anniversary. So far so good.
