I'd like to take this opportunity to inject some balance into DU regarding comments about religion. I've seen many, many wholesale condemnations of religion or Christianity. I'm not aware of any being banned because they're not posted in the religion forum, so allow me my say, OK?

Fortunately, Warren has given me an opportunity to point out why many of us see it as a positive thing when a left wing candidate is shown to have an active faith. You can be pretty sure it won't be a right wing "evangelical" distortion. Instead, it is probably the kind of faith that taught me (and Warren) that "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight." That was one of the first two songs I learned out of the home (the other being Jesus loves me), and I believe it became a core part of my liberal/progressive identity.

Warren later reflected on how faith has an influence on many people’s views about the LGBT community, and recited the first song she remembered learning as a child in Oklahoma.

“They are yellow, black and white. They are precious in his sight. Jesus loves all the children of the world,” she sang.

“That was the basis of the faith I grew up in,” she said, growing more serious. “It truly is about the preciousness of each and every life. It is about the worth of every human being.

I found it incredibly sweet, even moving.

Great post. The joke she told will never be forgotten but watch the full 3:24 clip. She connects in so many different ways.

So my question is not necessarily about her.. just this idea in general..

What does 'faith'(whatever that really is, and I wont go into that here. but what does the idea of 'faith' have to do with it anyway...?

Thank goodness Democrats have a big tent. I do have "faith" that Elizabeth Warren is the best person to execute "faithfully" the Office of President.

Here's a poll:

Gallop Poll as of 2017, measuring the importance of religion in the US and a breakdown of denominations. It also takes a look at the importance of religion in someone’s life. It appears that while the number of “believers” has declined slightly in recent years, they still hold a slim majority of 54%.

Another poll from 2016 takes a look at a single poll question: “Do you believe in god?”

by Frank Newport
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
• 89% of Americans say they believe in God
• In a separate poll, 79% say "believe in God" and 10% "not sure"
• All measures of belief in God show declines from previous decades
PRINCETON, N.J. -- About nine in 10 Americans say they believe in God, and one in 10 say they do not. However, when presented with more than a "yes or no" option, about eight in 10 say they believe and one in 10 say they aren't sure. Belief in God, regardless of how the question is phrased to Americans, is down from levels in past decades.

This Pew Poll looks at how religion influenced the 2016 primaries. Obviously religion is not as important among Republicans as evangelicals once claimed.

Time.

Be easy on me!!! I'm a Christian!

I appreciate it when people of faith talk about how their faith shapes their beliefs. The faith of many on the left is a driving for for why they are on the left. It makes very good sense. They better have a public and consistent stance on abortion if they are going to discuss their faith.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
