Look at how happy these people are.

I’m a Warren girl. But I like Bernie too.

This tweet is a sign we are building an irresistible wave; a conquering political force. This is no longer just about tearing down the GOP (though that has to be done). This is about building our own team, our own positive energy.

Positivity, optimism — these are Democratic values and they are building, despite the dark times.

Mon Oct 14, 2019, 11:47 AM

is understandable as it is a swing district and was held by a Rethug (Yoder.)

Brent Welder was the clear front-runner in the primary, and the moderate (who was backed by DCCC) Andrea Ramsey, dropped out in December due to sexual harassment charges against her. There was no other real opposition to Welder until really late in the game, as Davids jumped into the race months after Ramsey dropped out, was not really gaining traction, but then, like a month before the primary, the DCCC, Emily's List and a few other groups dumped in around a millions USD for Davids in adverts and mailing etc. She started to gain in the polls, and that is when it turned into a bit of a fight, as Bernie and AOC came out to help Welder. David's said she was the more progressive and that did not go over well with the more left elements of the party. She beat Welder in a pretty close race and then won the general, beating the incumbent, Yoder.

The Progressive caucus asked her to join after she won the general and came for orientation, but she turned them down and joined the centrist New Democrat Coalition. She had campaigned as not really supporting Pelosi for Speaker, but at least she changed her mind on that. There is a bit of residual argy bargy between the two sides, due to the way it all went down.

I am just glad we won the seat, but I was under no illusions that David's would be a progressive, despite some here insisting I was not only wrong, but then (ironically as I am a lesbian) one poster (now banned) even trying to slur me by saying I, ME, was anti-LGBTQ simply for saying Davids would end up a moderate. That slur post was hidden, and not by an alert from me, so I felt better then about the board, as I was pretty new back then.

The main issue I have is that Davids has however, unfortunately become an anti-marijuana warrior (even though I do not smoke at all, in fact I hate it, lolol, it is still sorta a big issue for me due to the utter failure and cost of the drug war.) She was one of only 8 Democrats (the other 7 are close to the most conservative Dems in the House) to vote against a bill that blocked the Trump Justice Department from interfering with the 11 states that have legalised it.

Josh Gottheimer D-NJ, No

Conor Lamb D-PA, No

Collin Peterson D-MN, No

Davids has aslo voted against bills that would have

Allow VA Doctors To Recommend Medical Cannabis
Allow States To Legalize Medical Cannabis
Allow States To Legalize Recreational Cannabis
Ended Cannabis Prohibition At Federal Level

But all in all, she is quite good so far, just certainly not a progressive (and TBF, Welder may not have won the general, and also, IF he became a leftie bomb-thrower, he might have been smashed in his first reelection bid.)

control of the House under the current RW-manipulated, RW gerrymandered, RW voter suppressed system. There are 108 centrists in our Caucus now, ranging from the moderate centre left New Democrat Coalition, then the centre Blue Dogs, and finally the centre to centre-right (in some cases) bi-partisan and very problematic No Labels Problem Solvers. There are so so many seats that are swing, pink, purple and red, that a far left candidate simply cannot win as things stand. All they can do is go after centrists and the few centre-rights left in safe Dem seats, but that is not going to get them anywhere near the numbers they need.

On the other hand, people who advocate running pretty much EVERY (or damn near every) leftist type out are asking for big trouble too, as if you remove all steam-release valves for the far left to vent through, they will just leave and not vote anymore, or start a new left party that has little chance of every winning much, but will have BIG possibilities of fucking up the Democratic Party. A centrist-only-need apply stance is just as much a purity test as anything that some accuse the actual left of having. Now that AOC is established on the national stage, it is foolish to try and think that a defeat of her by some centrist (especially if (and I can NOT see this happening) it were some sort of pile-on by the DCCC et al to smack her out) will result in anything good for our Party. I can most assuredly promise that it will not result in anything of overall benefit for us a Party looked at via a big picture take.

These are the perils of a first-past-the-post majoritarian voting system that has no proportional representation. You must maintain a big tent party. Many on the farthest reaches of both sides of our Party are guilty of not seeing this at times I think.
