Julian Castro takes night from campaigning for laughs, scholarship fundraiser
Democratic presidential candidate and San Antonio native, Julián Castro, took a night off from campaigning Saturday to help raise money for scholarships and spend an evening with a group of people every politician loves -- journalists.
The former San Antonio mayor and U.S. housing secretary attended the annual Gridiron show at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, a sketch comedy that skewers local politicians, newsmakers and media personalities and is presented by the Society of Professional Journalists San Antonio Pro Chapter.
Castro and his brother, Rep. Joaquin Castro, are no strangers to the show, both of whom have participated in past shows in various skits and videos.
And true to his witty nature, Julián again took up the call to comedy when he appeared during the show's newscast, a skit where area anchors read a set of fake stores, à la "Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update.
