I really like Amy Klobuchar. I'd love to see her on the ticket as VP.

Klobuchar is not going to win the presidential nomination, but she is smart, funny, tough, down-to-earth, and experienced, and I'd love to see her as VP. She has no problems sparring with the likes of Brett Kavanaugh, and the prospect of her going toe-to-toe with Mike Pence is thrilling. Our nominee is likely to come from the Northeast, and Klobuchar is a highly popular Midwestern senator, a region we need to reclaim.

I'd admittedly hate to lose someone so good in the Senate. I was already sad to lose Al Franken's representation of Minnesota. They were one of the best Senate duos in the country. (Though wouldn't it be something if Klobuchar were elected and Governor Walz appointed Franken to complete her term?)

In terms of matching up with our current top tier candidates, I will say that Klobuchar is most effective as a VP for Warren. If Biden were to pick her, I believe it would be seen as one of the most bland tickets we've ever run. Klobuchar's centrism would at least serve some sort of strategic purpose on a Warren ticket, and there's something about their energies that match up well together.

On the other hand, a Warren-Klobuchar ticket would have to reconcile differences on health care, over which they have disagreed tremendously. Klobuchar would be asked every day about whether she will advocate for Medicare For All. I'm confident she and the team are smart enough to construct a thoughtful approach to that line of questioning.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Klobuchar isn't up for re-election until 2024, so the presidential election is mid-term. Minnesota's Democratic governor would appoint a Democrat (and as you and I agree on, wouldn't it be cool if it were Franken?).

Aside from the appointing of a Democrat, I'm not nervous about losing that seat in an election anyway. Minnesota has not sent a Republican to the Senate since 2002, and that was a fluke. Paul Wellstone was well on his way to beating Norm Coleman until he died in the plane crash and the national media had a meltdown over his memorial.

Granted, Franken's race in 2008 was a close one decided by a recount, but I think anything involving Norm Coleman is an anomaly.

I believe she has failed to gain traction because she's running against some already established names. However, I do think she still brings advantages to a general election ticket.

I can't imagine that she's not going to be on everyones shortlist. Her geographic appeal alone is going to do that.
