ABC News is teasing a wide ranging interview with Hunter Biden that will air Tuesday morning and evening—the same day as the next presidential debate. All but ensures this issue will be the dominant narrative for the former VP as Biden takes the stage.

1. Likely, it was already going to be a major thread of the debate.

Axelrod was of the opinion that each candidate would be asked if they would allow their son/daugter to serve on a foreign Board during his/he term.

He’s a little too old to need permission from his daddy to do anything. Taking the job may have been a bad idea, but he’s a grown man and he can make his own decisions.

they would have to think carefully about acting against that advice. I would not have gone against the advice of the State Department, if I had received such.

no situation similar to the one you postulate. In fact, Chris Heinz sent emails to two long term Kerry people (including David Wade, who he had to personally know very well) to tell them that Hunter and Devon joined the board and had put out a PR statement. The content seemed to be just giving them this heads up and insuring they knew he was absolutely against it.

I think with Hunter's statement that he is off the boards now AND will not be on any foreign company or country's board if Biden AND Joe Biden's strong position going forward is likely the best positioning Biden could have. Given how many problems Hunter has, I agree with the person saying "who thought this a good idea." However, if Joe Biden was for this - he knows his son, he knows the facts and he is a capable politician. I would have thought his statement and the Joe Biden comments had the potential of staunching this wound.

I hope that Hunter Biden, a Yale educated lawyer, does not try to justify joining the board by saying he could not see an optics problem - even after Chris Heinz argued against it and was concerned enough to start the laborious process of ending all business ties with him.

JB takes a good, strong position going forward. I would not be surprised if all the Democrats state they agree with it - even if they need to say that they could not control adult relatives.

I agree this has more downsides vs upsides. I think it may be HB's attempt to rehabilitate his reputation. The image he has of being very troubled, unprincipled, and given the he has no skills meme. As a Yale educated lawyer, a man intelligent enough to have the education he does and -- probably, whatever Biden charm he might have. I don't think many people have actually seen him -- I bet he is gambling that "what people will see" has to be better than how he is perceived now. (After all, almost everything we know about him is negative!)

I read the somewhat sympathetic New Yorker article that went through his many troubles. However, the Republican meme that "he had no skills" to be on the board has been repeated constantly. I think it has 2 purposes. One to make his being offered that position look worse than if he were seen as a competent Yale educated lawyer. The second is to create a very negative picture of a complete failure.
