In Iowa, Biden confronts a growing threat: Pete Buttigieg

Politico

While Biden delivered a solid performance on stage before a crowd of 13,500 Democrats at the state party’s Liberty & Justice dinner, he was overshadowed and outshined by the candidate who just passed him in the polls — Pete Buttigieg.

At the massive state party event known for its catalytic effect on campaigns — it’s widely remembered as a turning point for Barack Obama’s Iowa fortunes in 2007 — Buttigieg captured the audience’s imagination, articulating a case for generational change.

“I didn’t just come here to end the era of Donald Trump,” Buttigieg said to a roaring crowd of supporters. “I’m here to launch the era that must come next.”

The South Bend, Ind., mayor’s speech offered an insight into his recent surge here, and why he is threatening to eclipse the former vice president in a state where Biden has been steadily losing ground since summer.

13. Amazing that with all the "losing ground" and "fading" he's still the frontrunner!

He is only a few polls away from overtaking Bernie as #3. That's an important symbolic threshold.

biggest chance in. But despite his Frederick Douglass plan, something he came up with after months getting no traction with AA communities, and which we now hear nothing about, he still
lacks the support of our most important base voters.

And how would he fare in the Rust Belt? In the states we must win to win?

I don’t even see how he has presidential qualifications, as engaging and bright a personality he is.

Not our most competitive candidate nation-wide, though certainly would be a better president than
any Republican.

11. I would like to know if the polls are taken from just Democratic voters or everyone in general.

IMO I think that to have a potential Democratic voter come across from the Republican side, they'd be looking for more middle of the road policies (not too far left). I was wondering that if the polls that put Warren and Sanders way out in front, if it is the result of just polling Democrats. Unfortunately Biden is now carrying too much baggage to push through.

At first, I thought that with Buttigieg being gay might count against him. But then I thought, It wouldn't matter if you are black, white or brindle, Democrat or Republican, everyone has either a family member, a relative or a friend that is gay.

Pete and Amy are my dream team.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
