Elizabeth Warren, yesterday,
" Ms. Warren, who has sparred from afar with Mr. Bloomberg over her proposals to tax the extremely rich, issued a blistering fund-raising message calling his potential candidacy another example of the wealthy wanting our government and economy to only work for themselves. Campaigning in North Carolina on Thursday evening, Ms. Warren offered a restrained comment on Mr. Bloomberg and cast her candidacy as a grass roots movement.
Its not enough just to have somebody come in, anybody, and say theyre going to buy this election, she said. "

(6,110 posts)The rich are getting richer, middle class and below are barely scraping by no matter how hard they work.
Sen Warren is the only candidate who understands this, has the experience, has the energy
and drive to defeat Donald Trump in 2020.

Billionaires know that even is Warren of Bernie were elected, they don't have the votes in the senate to change the tax code in that kind of way.

Everyone is nervous, said Steven Rattner, a prominent Democratic donor who manages the wealth of Michael R. Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor. What scares the hell out of me is the way she would fundamentally change our free-enterprise system.

(31,261 posts)Theodore Roosevelt was put forward as a candidate by the rich to counter a populist democratic candidate. The rich saw that their first candidate likely could not beat William Jennings Bryan (sp), so they dumped him and inserted Roosevelt, thinking that being one of them, he would be favorable to their wants, he won and promptly proceeded to bust-up the massive Trusts held by JP Morgan, Standard Oil, Andrew Carnegie, et al. Interestingly, Teddy's own family had a branch with one of the biggest Trusts of that era.
The rich using their influence to select leaders is nothing new, it was very commonplace during the first two centuries of the country's existence, with some legendary grafters like Benjamin Franklin.
