But in this one, Gabbard attacked the Democratic Party and Harris was asked to respond, which she did.

Tulsi came out attacking Democrats in general. I have no idea how she got there, where are her supporters? Where is she getting the money to make it to the debates?

Mother being from India? Is there some cultural thing that perhaps people with more knowledge of the hierarchy could shed?

12. According to Wikipedia, although Gabbard is Hindu, she's not Indian. At all.

European-American and American Samoan. Adopted Hinduism as a teenager, by choice not by childhood familial acculturation. *According to Wikipedia* repeat caveat.

Could there be some cultural thing about Harris's mother involved still? I suppose so. Way outside my wheelhouse. But even if true, for me that would be a "hey you're an adult choosing to be an asshole" rather than "okay it is unfortunate that that's how you were raised" kind of thing.

10. Could also be b/c she's the only other mixed race woman on stage...

Not necessarily about being black, just about occupying the same "space" as "the mixed race woman candidate" but there's another unseemly/uncomfortable thing which it could be. Just spitballing, pure speculation: maybe it is not about being black, but about being Indian specifically.

Gabbard, who is of European-American-Samoan heritage, adopted Hinduism as a teenager, and hardly an biographical article about her gets written w/o mentioning that she's the only Hindu in Congress. Most people in America associate being Hindu with Indian heritage and vice versa (despite the margin to which that is incorrect in both directions). Harris's mother is Indian (Tamil, specifically, according to what I've read). So if Gabbard is at all insecure or feeling a poseur or doesn't like the contrast or whatever, maybe that is part of it.

Yes, I've thought as much in the past, but Kamala is a much more formidable opponent than Gabbard.
