I don't care if the republican candidate is Trump, Pence, or anyone else. After watching the impeachment hearings today, and listening to the republicans, I think it's obvious that there is an absolute need to support Democrats at every level in 2020. I like reading the positive things people write here about the candidate they support. And I think it's fine to detail why you support that person over the others. But we shouldn't be engaging in personal attacks on any of them. They are all good people and far superior than Trump.

The moderators aren't allowing for enough natural debate for my liking. They pick the pair that they want to go at it and then move on. It's bull and frankly a flawed system. Every candidate should be required to speak on plans and issues if you're going to ask people to go into the nitty gritty of a plan and how they're going to pay for it. This is pretty much just penalizing people who are prepared outside the debate.

certain backgrounds and types of discrimination faced, there still was an urgent need to work with a diverse coalition to fight those multiple types of discrimination and injustice and raise up all groups. He was not putting his LGBTQ experiences on some imaginary balance scale and calling it equal, in fact he brought up the fact that historic racial discrimination over hundreds of years has left a broken system that compounds the injustice and that it needs to be a focal point for all people to help overcome and combat and reverse. His city is also almost majority-minority, so it is not some ultra narrow, non-diverse window of governance that he has interfaced with for the past 8 years. He also has been in an executive role within a strong mayor system. He also oversees a budget and staff and workers that dwarf any Senator's or Representative's.

did raise metrics across the board (even though, like most all other cities and states, we (I am part black) PoC still lag behind all other demographic groups on average in most areas of well-being.) He also was reelected with over 80% of the vote, which included the vast majority of African-Americans who voted (and that was after the often misrepresented Boykins issues, which hit when Pete had been mayor for only 6 days.) The other big issue was the tragic police fatal shooting in June, which really kneecapped his A-A primary support (he was even up to 6 or 7% of black support, and rising, in South Carolina, his worst state) which cratered after that.

I fully admit it is a very large (and quite possible fatal) systemic issue for his nomination chances. Perhaps he can toil and claw and work his arse off and win some more of my fellow PoC over. It remains to be seen.

is the important thing to me. It's really about problem solving for me, not ideas.

We're THE party of ideas. How we solve problems LEADS the ideas we can sell. That's why Biden's poll numbers remain steady.

That's my problem with Pete's ideas.

So for me and most people, maybe, is not how he toils and claws and works his ass off, but whether he admits his mistakes and says how he'll do better when the problem comes up again.

If he hasn't, he's not ready.

All that said...

The decisions we make in the next four years will determine America’s path for the next forty. And a great deal of the progress we make–on everything from increasing economic freedom to confronting climate disruption–will depend on whether we tackle racial inequality in our lifetime. For all our country’s forward movement, Black people in America are still disproportionately excluded from systems of social protection, economic uplift, and representative democracy while facing shorter lifespans, lower educational attainment ,and dramatic overcriminalization and incarceration compared to their white counterparts.

I cringed. You do not know how many times I've heard white gay men compare their experience to the black experience and have just watched it fail as a black gay man often looking to bridge the Afam and LGBT community. I need him to hire an LGBT person of color to help him navigate that land mine because woo that is a tried and tested way of pissing people off.

Black voters want to hear about what he has done in South Bend. If he has positive stories, and he hinted at the fact that he did in his answer, he needs to share them.

Just because black people back him, doesn't mean he can say that white privileged bullshit.

They're only with him because he was "with" Obama, and know that Obama backs him.

It's more that he helped Obama actually navigate governing, than that Biden "knows" black people. Biden was not born on the "black people third base," and so he can't even conceive that he hit the "black people triple."

I had to laugh as I saw the split screen of Booker's wide eyes and Harris's laughing out loud.

Poor Joe.

But I have to say I think black folk will vote for his well-meaning ass anyway.

Here are the people on the cusp:

Yang - does not meet state and national polling thresholds
Gabbard - does not meet donor threshold or poll thresholds
Steyer - does not meet donor and state poll thresholds

Criteria:

To score an invite, candidates must meet a donor requirement:

- contributions from 200,000 unique donors.

And one of two polling requirements:

- two polls at 6 percent or more in the four early nominating states: Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina; or

- four polls at 4 percent or more in early nominating states or national surveys.
