Bloomberg to open campaign office in US Virgin Islands

Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg will open a campaign field office in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a campaign spokesperson confirmed to The Hill Monday.

"Mike believes Americans in the territories are often overlooked and have an important voice and role to play in this election," Dan Kanninen, Bloomberg's states director, said in a statement.

The announcement was first reported by Axios.

The decision is uncommon for primary candidates, but the former New York mayor’s self-funded campaign has been nontraditional from the start.

Bloomberg has said he is skipping the first few nominating contests, including February’s Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary, which much of the Democratic field is focusing on now.

The Virgin Islands are scheduled to hold a caucus on June 6.

Bloomberg Philanthropies aided recovery efforts in the Virgin Islands after a hurricane devastated the region in 2017.

Well, you know who HE over-looked on Monday, a few days ago ?

The Central Park Five. Someone asked him about the case and Bloomberg said he couldn't remember because it was too long ago and he's been out of government for so long. Really, Mike ? Your administration spent MILLIONS of dollars VIGOROUSLY resisting the legal challenge those young men mounted to their BOGUS incarceration, and you can't remember ? You went so far as to say on Monday that there was " an awful lot of evidence" connecting them to the crime. No, Mike, there was NOT ONE PHYSICAL PIECE of evidence connecting any of them. Not. One. Piece.

Less than one year after Bloomberg left office, NYC paid out $40 million in settlement to Korey Wise, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Ray Santana and Yusef Salaam. Bill DeBlasio has said that it is time to realize and recognize the terrible travesty that destroyed these young men - they were all less than 16 at the time of their arrest - and never forget what happened. But Bloomberg can't remember. It was too long ago for him to remember.

If that's the best you can do, Mike, you do not DESERVE to even be considered a candidate.

And don't even get me started on what trumpie did to these men.

paying 90% less in taxes than the mainland. If you want proof that a Bloomberg Administration would be a government by the rich, for the rich, look no further.

What do you think the locals will be telling Mike - we need the wealthy to be paying more? It's bullshit.

"The Internal Revenue Service treats the U.S. Virgin Islands as a foreign country, a designation that when combined with the incentives fuels a legal accounting alchemy in which high-tax U.S. profits are funneled to the low-tax islands."

"Virgin Islands residents are U.S. citizens but cannot cast electoral votes for the president of the U.S. but they can participate in the presidential nominating processes (caucuses)."

No, they should not get a vote on the Democratic presidential nominee IMHO. But realistically, a Bloomberg campaign office in the Virgin Islands is probably just a new post box in a building he already owns.
