(21,642 posts)And Bernie and Liz Warren, in particular, have probably done more than anyone to raise support for raising minimum wages.
It certainly wasn't thanks to anyone in the GOPee. Their goal is 19th-century style wage slavery for all (except their friends and family).
Thanks for posting this, Uncle Joe - and a Happy New Year!

Bernie has been pushing for a higher minimum wage for most of his political career. In 1993, he introduced one of his first pieces of legislation, the Liveable Wage Act of 1993. He then re-introduced the bill in 1995, 1997, and 1999.
In 2001, he introduced the Minimum Wage Restoration Act and went on to co-sponsor several other similar bills over the next decade. In 2013, he proposed and argued for a budget amendment to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour.
In July 2015, Bernie proposed a new amendment that would make the federal minimum wage $15 per hour. Bernies latest legislation was preceded by a letter from 200 professional economists recommending raising the federal minimum wage to that same $15 per hour level. The economists estimate that 76 million Americans stand to benefit from raising the minimum wage.
Heres Bernie introducing his legislation:

(58,372 posts)$15 minimum wage was a major focus point of his unexpectedly strong 2016 run and that gave much needed momentum to the issue of a livable wage.

(377 posts)credit. Sanders was nowhere around. He started being heard 2015, well after this was in motion state to state. Facts matter.

(58,372 posts)to the national consciousness, there is no denying this and that in turn gave momentum to the issue of a livable wage of at least $15 an hour.

(377 posts)administration said it would happen. Like Clinton said it would happen while Sanders was boisterously yelling they were failures because they were not starting at 15 an hour. If anything, he was the harm, instead of the help that allowed the state to incrementally increase the rise in wage on a yearly increase. THAT was the administrations work and effort. They did it. State Democratic party did it. Sanders had not a toe in getting the stuff done, yet here he is taking credit for it. No.

(58,372 posts)when it refused to do so in regards to the federal government?
Didn't the Democrats control the White House and Congress after the 2008 election?
(snip)
Congress set the federal minimum at $7.25 per hour in 2009. While many states have passed higher wage floors, the federal rate has remained the same for the past 10 years, the longest period of time without an increase since the Roosevelt administration implemented it in 1938.
Lathrop said "federal inaction" is a significant reason why so many states and municipalities are raising minimum wages.
"There is a bill in Congress for a $15 minimum wage by 2025, I believe," she said. "And it passed the House, but it's stalled in the Senate and is not being brought up to the floor by the Senate leadership or the (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) committee chair."
Lathrop also said a rising cost of living across the country has prompted the need for consistent wage increases.

(3,011 posts)Republicans have never pushed for increasing wages. Many want to do away with the minimum wage altogether, but as companies have voluntarily increased minimum wage, the metric reflects this. tRump ALWAYS takes credit. He will again. Watch for it in the SOTU.
