D.N.C. Tells Pollsters to Do More Polls

NORTH CONWAY, N.H. — The morning after the Democrats’ last debate in December, the Democratic National Committee announced the thresholds to qualify for the next one, scheduled for Jan. 14 in Des Moines: 5 percent support in four qualifying polls, or 7 percent in two early-state polls. With those steeper requirements in place, just five candidates have qualified so far: Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar.

Those who haven’t made the cut are getting angry about relying on the results of public polling — when no polls that count have been released since the last debate, on Dec. 19.

If any of the lower-tier candidates got a boost from that last debate, there have been no qualifying polls to reflect it. With just one week to go before the Jan. 10 qualification deadline, there’s been no way for Andrew Yang or Tom Steyer — who are on the fringe of making the debate stage — or anyone else (like Cory Booker, who needs a lot of help) to secure a spot.

The five candidates who have already qualified did so on the basis of polling from before Dec. 19. (Candidates must also receive donations from at least 225,000 supporters. Mr. Steyer announced Friday that he’d reached that threshold. Mr. Yang and Mr. Booker had already gotten there.)

The upshot of this article is that there may be no January debate or if there is only two moderates Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg will be able to participate should Pelosi send the impeachment of Trump to the Senate.

Bernie, Elizabeth and Amy would have to stay in D.C. as jurors.

It's amazing to me how many DNC approved polls have taken place since last spring and none have taken place since December 19th.

1. Perez should drop the poll requirement at this point. They worked hard and deserve to debate.

What we don't need are more passive Dems who want to 'lead' us.

For those who don't make the official DNC debates...why don't they come together and form their own debate? If networks don't broadcast it, at least there's a YouTube which can go viral until the networks are forced to re-run it.

But they sit around whining about the DNC....too passive to go after the vote. Adapt! Show us how you can work around the obstacles placed in your path.

4. There are 5 ................

candidates with any legitimate chance to win this thing, and only 3 of them have a realistic chance.

I'd rather hear from those candidates than from Yang talking about how much he loves Corey Booker or Tom Steyer talk about a commercial he made two years ago.

These candidates have all had multiple debates and months of campaigning to move their needles and they haven't been able to do that. I'd rather spend the last pre-Iowa debate focused on the ones who have been able to show some strength in that time.

5. Who is your fifth candidate with a chance?

I assume Biden, Sanders, Warren and Buttigieg are the first 4.

Is your 5th Amy Klobuchar or Michael Bloomberg?

Just curious.

I don't think it's a great chance though.

Polls cost a lot of money. If the DNC want more polls they can order and pay for them.
