Wow, interesting point about qualifying for the January Debate

Soooo, there have been no qualifying state polls since a month BEFORE the January debate rules were declared?

And there have ben no qualifying national debates since the day before the January debate rules were announced?

That's mind boggling.

1. Yeah, but how do you poll over the holidays?

People aren't home, they're out and about. Polling light volumes of people is like the stock market - it creates outliers. I think that's why they don't poll over this time period.

the same qualifying rules for the December debate should remain in effect for January.

They have no influence over how or when pollsters do their work.

Still, there has to be some verifiable criteria.

7. The DNC could pay pollsters...

But I suppose that might seem a little unseemly.

I am just shocked that no qualifying pollster has conducted a statewide poll since November 18th.

Personally, I would have really liked to see what's going on recently in those states just for curiosity sake.

But aren't you just a little surprised that no qualifying pollster has done a state poll since November 18th?

I was shocked to see that. I knew it was a while, but it never crossed my mind that it has been that long.

13. Why not just go back to previous cycles and look at when polling was conducted?

I would, but couldn’t possibly care less, am not aggrieved by it and am not “boggled” in any way. But it seems like a good project for someone.

I know you couldn't care less, since you just made that crystal clear, but the dearth of polls this cycle at this point in time before voting starts is widely discussed on the interwebs.

Here is an example tweet I ran across just the other day:

And yeah, it is kind of mind boggling that pollsters have decide to do less and less polling in those states as actual voting approached.

I hope that satisfies your proclivity to recommend "good projects" to "someone" on this topic, which, as you have said, you couldn't possibly care less about.

11. There have been some polls, but none of them are "qualifying" polls.

In order to qualify for the next debate on Jan. 14, candidates must earn at least 5 percent in four qualifying polls released between Nov. 14 and Jan. 10, or 7 percent in two polls conducted in one of the four early-voting states on the nominating calendar: Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina.
