Bernie's Response to Those Who Question His Age

Jan 4, 2020

I’m 78. I plead guilty. But there is an advantage—you can check my record going back a long way. And I have stood up and fought for working families my entire life.

Statistically, most men over the age of 70 who have a heart attack have a high mortality rate:

We are mortal and we all die. Eisenhower has a heart attack in his first term. He went on to be re-elected and served out both terms.

And that is the underlying reason we support him. Lack of traction is another issue altogether and much more complex than simply looking at his record.

He got things passed that wouldn't even be looked at by adding them as amendments to must pass bills. He knows how to work with a system that is otherwise stacked against "We the People."

To me, one who concentrates on amendments is merely critiquing the work of others.

Many did, however. A critique in my thinking would need to be vaguely related to what the original bill covered. His amendments were often unrelated to what the bill was, it was simply the mechanism to get a bill passed that would be troublesome as a stand alone issue. Bernie is a master at getting the system to work for the people. He learned that technique when he was Mayor of Burlington which propelled him into the status as one of the best all time Mayors in this modern era. There's a reason why Vermont loves him.
