Politico: The left launches pre-Iowa assault on Biden

The progressive movement is kicking off 2020 with a full-scale, whack-a-Joe mobilization against the former vice president, marked by intensified attacks and protests designed to bloody Biden in advance of the Iowa caucuses.

The grassroots assault hit from a variety of angles, starting Monday when the Progressive Change Campaign Committee demanded Biden retract statements about sexism in politics. Hours later, the group Indivisible criticized him over his immigration plan. Then, activists aligned with the Sunrise Movement recently picketed him at a New York City fundraiser hosted by a billionaire.

While Biden has taken flak from the Democratic Party’s left flank for the past year, the effort marks the first time he’s been the subject of a sustained barrage from the left, amplifying recent back-to-back broadsides from two of Biden’s top opponents, Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, over Social Security and bankruptcy legislation.

The shared offensive comes on the heels of Biden’s best fundraising quarter — he pulled in nearly $23 million — since entering the presidential race in April. And it follows recent polling that shows he remains the frontrunner in national primary polls and a top-tier contender in first-in-the-nation Iowa, which holds its caucus Feb. 3.

Biden's support is pretty rock solid. The only variance that I have seen seems to be just a poll sampling variance. His average on Real Clear Politics right now is close to 30%, and that is with about 12 other candidates. His average has led almost every day since he first announced about 9 months ago. They need to do something instead of sitting around moping. Of course, spending their time working for their preferred candidate would be out of the question, right?

From the politico article cited in the OP

Steve Schale, the head of a super PAC dedicated to helping Biden win, said the polls tell the story of why progressives are suddenly targeting Biden.

“We’re in the last 30 days of the campaign, and that’s when people who are losing start attacking,” Schale said. “It’s not surprising they’ve taken more of a negative turn when they realized that Joe Biden after basically a year of being attacked is still the frontrunner.”

they eventually end up circling back to the same place: locked into their rigid and unforgiving ideology which allows no deviation from whatever their party line might be. AOC, for example, complains that the Democratic party is too big a tent and that some people don't belong in the House progressive caucus. Sanders' supporters refuse to tolerate so-called "establishment" Democrats, whatever that means, and at times have bashed solid long-time liberals like Nancy Pelosi and even John Lewis for being - what? - inadequate foot-soldiers in the struggle of the proletariat? Lackeys of capitalist imperialism? How is this different from the GOP being required to march in lockstep with Trump? Democrats can't win without the votes of all occupants of the big tent. If Bernie and pals want to pitch their pup-tent and keep everyone out who doesn't agree with them 100%, guess what happens.

So you have AOC complaining that the Democratic tent is "too big" and suggesting she and Biden shouldn't be in the same party.

And Biden -- so much wiser, as well as older -- responding that the Democratic tent is big enough for both of them.

We're not going to win many elections from a tiny, purity-tested tent. No matter how cozy the tiny-tenters might think they'd be if they could push others out.

I never could understand the tiny house movement, and I sure as hell don't understand anyone trying to make the Democratic Party tinier because the party's tent is supposedly "too big."
