(102,298 posts)toward the most progressive candidates and away from the likes of Biden, Buttigieg, and Klobuchar. Given the polled consensus views of older African Americans in the South in favor of Biden, a trend that is the one most long-lived and repeatedly documented in this primary, it feels really contemptuous of this older group of African Americans to so discount their views, yet she and several of her regular roundtable members seem to do so continuously.
I continue to like all five of the leading candidates (and a couple in the lower tier) and would like our tv pundits to give them all an even-handed coverage.
Joy can be quite good on more global issues. But, yes, I find it increasingly difficult to watch her espouse on the primary.

(58,785 posts)What is she hired to accomplish and for whom? When she and the rest of her team and outside political staffers met to discuss what themes would be hit in this program, who were they, what themes were they considering, and WHY?
I don't watch her any more. And the themes her programs push are sufficient reason. Either Republicans or Democrats will become the dominant power starting in 2021. Among smart people, and they are, every theme that undermines belief and confidence in Democrats (like this one) and stoke divisions (like this one) is meant to benefit Republicans.

Almost none of the cable news regulars function as journalists. Reid is generally listed as an "American cable television host" and I find that to be accurate.

(6,799 posts)with Joy Reid. Her show today on Pete Buttegeig was terrible. Twenty minutes of negativity. I then remembered that Michael Harriot from the Root tried to do a smear job on Joe Biden a couple of months ago. I wonder who he will target next: Mayor Bloomberg; Tom Steyer; Bernie Sanders; Andrew Yang. I tape her show but seldom watch anymore for all the reasons already stated. I watched this morning because I was astounded at the one-sided segment on Pete. No more, Ill tape Ali Velshis new show on before her. Joy Ann has become biased. I also discovered that Henry Gates, Jr., is a co-founder of The Root publication. Joy Ann was a Root reporter at one time.

Had his hands and arms burned from a flash fire. Threw up is hands to protect his face went right back. He went right back. The fire is much worse than California.
Yet Trump and his gang are weakening climate laws. We have a bunch of ignorant lunatics running our Government

You would not believe how neighbors, Churches, First Responders came together when we had the tornado's, then the killings. Trump restricted his visit here to a very short trip to the local Hospital. He was not welcomed. Refused the Press to accompany him..

(2,227 posts)that the black community MUST NOT support Mayor Pete.
But that decision appears too conclusive to be spontaneous...
After all, if the black community isn't on board with our nominee, the rest of us can sit at home, because that nominee will lose. Joy is just helping achieve that goal.
Apparently (we are led to believe) the backbone of the black voting constituency, (all older black women) refuse to support him, therefore the entire black vote will be a no-show if he is the nominee. They won't say it is because of his sexuality, but they ALL seem to be "christian", and appear to be taking their marching biases from the black fundamental churches. (THAT is where my suspicions light, and it's also probably being fanned by those who want to cause discord among democrats...)
So the self-fulfilling prophecy was initiated so that EVERYONE says that blacks will never support Pete, therefore no one does. They say they aren't monolithic, yet no one wants to rock the boat. They would just as soon support Biden, because of Obama, and IN SPITE OF Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas. You can rest assured that ALL that shit will be dragged out when Biden becomes the nominee.
I am a Pete supporter. He has his critics within the black community on issues he faced as a mayor. He has been asked about the firing and the shooting. I happen to believe him. I am NOT big on his being SO religious, but I can overlook that because of his intelligence, empathy and ability to look at issues and offer a new way of addressing them. The same old, same old hasn't worked, and we need new options. At this point we, as a country, have SO jumped the shark, that desperation is a legitimate option in choosing a nominee. Sometimes a new direction is not only warranted, but smart. I think this is as good a time for serious change as we are going to get. The outrage I am seeing and hearing SEEMS to be overwhelming. While at the same time we are led to believe that this is a neck-in-neck horse race. Again, Joy is helping to achieve that.
Yes Pete is young. So? Apparently any idiot can fill the slot of POTUS. But, it is ALSO GLARINGLY APPARENT, the person in the position itself does not do all the work. The key is the people around the president, and the vision the president gives them. I trust Pete completely in that arena.
Obviously YMMV.

(2,897 posts)speak about Pete (or frankly any Democrat) in a remotely critical light. I still remember the post here calling for MSNBC to not allow her to talk about Pete or the crazy conspiracy that black journalists as a whole were out to get him.
I've been done with Pete, but I'm past the point of reconsideration now too. I'd mute his name, but I'd miss threads where he comes up tangentially in the title.
