Sanders' campaign: Warren only appeals to 'affluent'

Sanders campaign urging volunteers to tell Warren supporters she only appeals to 'affluent'

A script being distributed by Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) presidential campaign to volunteers reportedly presents Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as a 2020 candidate who appeals predominantly to better-educated, wealthier voters.

The script instructs volunteers to tell voters leaning toward the Massachusetts senator that “I like Elizabeth Warren. [optional] In fact, she’s my second choice. But here’s my concern about her.”

It goes on to instruct volunteers to say “people who support her are highly-educated, more affluent people who are going to show up and vote Democratic no matter what” and that “[s]he's bringing no new bases into the Democratic Party,” the news outlet reported.

Politico added that instructs volunteers to take aim at the electability in the other candidates within the top tier of the Democratic field as well, pointing out former South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s lack of support among African Americans and young people and saying that former Vice President Joe Biden “doesn’t really have any volunteers” and fails to generate excitement even among supporters.

has me shaking my head. They have spent the last months creating Warren as synonymous with Sanders. Warren had the middle age and educated Democratic base vote (HRC voters) and Biden people spent all this time making her the same as Sanders knowing the base has an issue with Sanders walking into the party trashing it. A vote for Warren was a vote for Sanders. Always tie her in as not part of the party, and a socialist. Always make it "Warren and Sanders". A fiscal conservative that turned into a socialist.

Sanders people held onto her because their guy wasn't doing well, and needed her to bolster them. Give them legitimacy.

This primary has made me look at the Biden supporters differently than I did with HRC or Obama supporters. They feel more like Bros. I watched them stoke the flame with Harris supporters, laying it all on Warren attacking her causing Harris issues. Biden and his supporters were the ones that spent a month going after her when her poll numbers were higher for daring to speak her mind about Biden segregation issues. How dare Booker and Harris have an opinion and speak out loud. And now they act like that didn't happen, and all along they were kind to Harris and it was wicked Warren that attacked Harris.

We have Sanders all out trashing our Democrats and I would like to see our top four take off their gloves, and unite in taking him down.

Bernie Sanders 'deeply humiliated' Democrats lost white working-class voters

Washington (CNN)Sen. Bernie Sanders expressed his disappointment Monday with Hillary Clinton's failure to secure the support of white working-class voters in last week's presidential election.

Donald Trump "very effectively" tapped into "the anger and angst and pain that many working class people are feeling," the Vermont independent senator who challenged Clinton in the Democratic primary said on "CBS This Morning."

"I think that there needs to be a profound change in the way the Democratic Party does business," Sanders said. "It is not good enough to have a liberal elite. I come from the white working class, and I am deeply humiliated that the Democratic Party cannot talk to where I came from."

For decades I have been arguing that with Republicans. 2016 I continually argued HRC was more pro working family than any of the candidates including Sanders, in many ways. And today, I argue it with both Biden and Sanders attacking Warren as not being for the working class. That having the educated vote is somehow less.

Sun Jan 12, 2020, 04:06 PM

for Sanders and this is most definitely not a campaign script given to any volunteer. None of my training includes anything remotely like this. We are told not to comment on other candidates and pivot back to Sanders if anyone brings up another candidate. All videos on Sanders training site also reiterate that no mention of other candidates is encouraged.

Hundreds of volunteers like myself have been tweeting that this is completely inaccurate and is not a Sanders campaign "script" but this story is still taking off - especially by those who want to believe it's true. It's sad to see it here on DU but I have come to be saddened often.

It is entirely possible someone put together some talking points on their own but this is most definitely not a instructions from the Sanders campaign to their staffers. This story is like the telephone game. No one has shown an actual verified script from the Sanders campaign to prove this is real. Only some typed words that "someone" attributes to the formal Sanders campaign.

I'm sure my instructions as a Sanders volunteer will mean nothing to those who choose to believe otherwise. But what a strange world we live in when this kind of anonymous so-called script takes on it's own life and is repeated by others to verify it's accuracy.
