I was in great shape and good health until the day I ended up in the Cardiac Unit from AFIB.

Also, I think the Bernie always talks like he's yelling all the time, and that can easily raise his blood pressure, affect his heart, and even worse, especially at his age. Also, your thoughts can stress you out and also raise your blood pressure even when you're not yelling; and Bernie always sounds like he's yelling even when he talking naturally.

It's a very disturbing habit. I much prefer Pete's calm, measured, thoughtful speech.

Bernie's voice gets in the way of his message.

4 to 5 times every week (walking on course, 6 miles each round). It helps to retire early,
give up the paychecks, and look after your health with regular exercise.
I rather have a smaller bank account and better health.
Now 22 years after retirement, I am still without heart problems.
Knock on wood!!

Kaiser Sunset specializes in Cardiology and all their heart procedures are done there so I guess they get lots of practice and lots of experience. I was in the hospital for 7 days total because this happened on a holiday weekend, a Friday and that Monday was a holiday. So by the time they transferred my to Kaiser, it was late Friday night and they didn't do the surgery until Tuesday. There weren't many people on that Ward due to the Monday Holiday, and the fact that they don't normally schedule surgeries on the weekends or holidays unless it's an absolute emergency and by that time the meds they had given me had stabilized me, for the time being. So I had my ablation on Tuesday and went home on Friday.

During that week I was there after my surgery, they would bring my a menu for my meals, and the menus always said, "No Coffee", and I was used to drinking coffee every day. The day I was discharged, they came in and discussed what I should and shouldn't be doing in the coming days and weeks. When they gave me my instructions, I noticed that they said nothing about "No Coffee" in my discharge instruction. So I went home and followed my instructions religiously. On the following Friday, I decided to have a cup of coffee since my lengthy set of discharge instructions hadn't said I couldn't have any and besides, it's been almost a week and I'm starting to feel fine. So I drank about half a cup of plain black coffee, and within about 10 minutes, my legs were wobbly and my chest was pounding. I raced back to the hospital, which thank God is close to home, and they reminded me that coffee/caffeine is a stimulate and I told them there weren't any caffeine restrictions on my discharge orders. I received a lecture from the ER Doctor and she told me that she knew I was smarter than that, since I should have asked first if I was in doubt, particularly since it was on my orders while in the hospital, and she was right. Besides I come from a large family of people in the medical field which I had mentioned to her in our discussions so I was hoping that I wasn't going to have to permanently give up my coffee.

Well, some of us learn the hard way, but I have not had any caffeine since. Being a creature of habit, I did eventually succumb to decaffeinated coffee and decaffeinated tea, both very weak at first, and it's been working for me every since. I've adjusted to it.

I'm sorry your ablation didn't work out for you. I hope that this lengthy response of mine finds you well and in good health in spite of it; and I wish you all the best, in the future.
