(112,443 posts)We'll see what is waiting for him around the corner. I still believe he would be an asset for many of the candidates still in the race and he has been working his tail off supporting other Democrats with his Powered by People PAC. If he isn't in D.C. after the November 2020 election, then I look forward to him running against Abbott.

(112,443 posts)He probably realized that his presidential candidacy was a long shot, but he kept his name in the game long enough that he could set himself up for a post in the administration of one of the other candidates or hold out until 2022.

(58,785 posts)Bloomberg is probably another. By not participating, he's not associated with a group seen as having all failed in what they came for. He's running outside against Biden alone, and we should expect his money to buy him up significantly on a deliberately separate highway.

(9,967 posts)... Pete. I like Amy, too... but, I admit Elizabeth won a close contest between all of them. I thought the "winner" above (presently, Joe) had a bad night (but not fatal) - so what do I know?

(2,412 posts)Every democrat was a winner tonight, on the stage and in the audience. They were all well prepared and each one had something to contribute. They were dignified, informed, caring and I loved that the news media couldnt get any traction with the cheap fireworks they were hoping for. It is great that there was no drama, just a lot of facts and ideas. I thought it was a great step forward for civility, civilization, rationality. We have all become way too accustomed to way too much drama and sensationalism from Trumpism.

(58,785 posts)compared to the vicious and viciously dishonest attacks during the Republican 2016 primary. That perspective offered struck me as spot on.
We may not admire ourselves most as we look at our responses to debates, but the comparison between what their voters want and accept and what Democraticvoters want to see is amazing. Our big drama was about Sanders's denial that he told her a woman wouldn't be elected this time. That's our version of a big deal. He didn't accuse her of involvement in the Kennedy assassination or demand she resign from the senate for missing votes while campaigning, and she didn't ask him about his hawking of fake cancer cures or plan to deport 11 million people. And neither used their time for what they really came for: to hawk their books.

(1,086 posts)They won because they reminded everyone why they like them.
Biden, Sanders, Buttigieg lost because they reminded everyone why they have doubts about them.
So nothing much changed right away.

(3,176 posts)...hands down, by holding steady and strong, making his Progressive case...
...Elizabeth came in second...but I think she suffered from her shaky stand on MFA...telling me her brothers are republican and she's from a republican family didn't help...
...Joe kept getting flustered and flubbing up...I can see trump and him in a debate with trump walking around mocking Joe in real time with every fluster...Joe could barely finish his allotted time...he looked like he had to catch a bus...
...Tom, claiming to be the Progressive Billionaire, is to me, a very hard sell...
...Amy was trying too hard...she was always stretching her allotted time, grabbing more than she deserved...this came across as 'greedy' and 'pushy' to me...
...Peter?... too young, too moderate and too inexperienced...maybe next time when he has more whiskers...
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(2,915 posts)as the way Warren addressed him at the end made it clear to me that he was the guilty party. The way his sleazy supporters have gone after her and her supporters in predictably misogynistic ways will hurt them both. This may come into play in the caucuses as they will not support each other if their candidate is not viable in their precinct.
