Abolitionists were called Socialist. Labor activists were called Socialist. Suffragettes were called Socialists. Anti-War marchers and Hippies were called Socialist. In history, all those people were on the right side.
Not such a scary thing to identify as. ❤

I seriously doubt that Suffragettes were called socialists. The rest? Meh.

The term socialism was created by Henri de Saint-Simon, one of the founders of what would later be labelled utopian socialism.

Claude Henri de Rouvroy, comte de Saint-Simon, often referred to as Henri de Saint-Simon (French: [ɑ̃ʁi də sɛ̃ simɔ̃]; 17 October 1760 – 19 May 1825), was a French political and economic theorist and businessman whose thought played a substantial role in influencing politics, economics, sociology and the philosophy of science.

Historical Park in Seneca Falls, NY. They may have been called much worse than socialists, but they were never called socialists.

New York, until I moved at age 25, and by the way, I don't think you are old enough to know what they were called back then.

I should correct that to say born on an Air Force base in Texas, and parents moved back to NY when I was 3 months.
