Hillary Clinton Says She 'Will Do Whatever I Can to Support Our Nominee' After Comments About Sander
Mediaite
By Josh Feldman Jan 21st, 2020, 7:34 pm
Hillary Clinton took to Twitter tonight to address comments she made in a candid new interview about 2016 rival Bernie Sanders.
To briefly recap: Clinton stood by saying nobody likes Sanders in a new Hollywood Reporter interview, unloading on the culture around him and his online Bernie Bros and their relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women. She accused him of permitting this culture amongst his supporters and did not directly answer the question of whether she would endorse and campaign for him if he was the Democratic nominee for president.
As a result, #ILikeBernie trended on Twitter for much of the day, with Sanders supporters and even some other 2020 Democratic candidates weighing in:

Of course she will do what Bernie Sanders' current national co-chair, current top surrogate and current national press secretary would not do in 2016: support the eventual Democratic nominee no matter who it is.

(17,387 posts)5. Bernie Sanders won't commit to leaving the race if he fails to secure the Democratic nomination
That is because Hillary Clinton has always been about serving the people. She has class and integrity. I could only wish that Bernie would follow her example.

Some people say that if maybe that system was not rigged against me, I would have won the nomination and defeated Donald Trump. Thats what some people say. So I think were going to play it out, he added. So our goal right now is to win it, and by the way, as you may know, poll after poll shows what against Trump? It shows me beating Trump by 8, 9, or 10 points. Were going to beat Trump, were going to win the Democratic nomination.
Sanders faced widespread criticism from across the party after the 2016 race that his insistence on carrying out his campaign through the Democratic National Convention even after it became clear he had fallen short of the necessary delegates to win the nomination forced Hillary Clinton to continue battling an intraparty dispute and hurt her standing in the general contest against Donald Trump.
He has long railed against the Democratic National Committee for overseeing what he slammed as a rigged nominating process that favored Clinton over his insurgent progressive campaign. While hacked emails revealed a preference among top party officials for Clinton over Sanders, no steps were made to materialize those desires.
The Vermont Independent went on to withhold his endorsement for Clinton until the middle of July 2016 and then went on a campaign stretch for her that critics said was half-hearted.
