cuts in the name of fiscal responsibility.

This consensus wasn’t based on hard thinking; it was about the attitude politicians were expected to display. As I wrote way back in 2007, proclaiming a Social Security crisis requiring cuts was seen as a “badge of seriousness,” a way of showing how statesmanlike and tough-minded you were.

The candidate I was criticizing, by the way — the guy I said had been “played for a sucker” — was a politician named Barack Obama. But Biden was certainly pulled in by that conventional wisdom, too, so it’s not hard to find old quotes in which he suggested possible Social Security cuts in the name of fiscal responsibility.

Bernie has a weird way of apologizing, or in this case a half hearted non apology, and then doubling down on what he’s apologized for. It’s a bold strategy that is really paying off.

This reminds me of the time he actually listed all the false attacks on a competing candidate that he was not mentioning because he chose to take the high ground.

Who else does this? Donald Trump who happily listed all the false Hillary conspiracies that he refrained from citing because he was trying to be a nice guy.

I have no idea why the Bernie campaign decided to take that other video out of context. Plain incompetence. Not like it's hard finding examples of Biden actually talking about cutting social security like they did here.
