Sen.Chris Coons Talks about Pic of his Daughter with Biden

<Sen. Chris Coons addressed a 2015 photo this weekend that captured a moment between his daughter and Joe Biden that critics have used as evidence of the former vice president's alleged inappropriate behavior.

In 2015, when Coons was being sworn in as a U.S. senator, a photo captured Biden leaning into Coons' teenage daughter, whispering in her ear and then kissing her on the head. To many, Coons' daughter seemed to be uncomfortable in the moment.

But Coons told The Washington Post this weekend that his daughter "did not think of it as anything."

Coons, who has previously addressed the photo, told The Washington Post on Saturday that, in that moment, Biden was praising his daughter and telling her he could connect her with his daughter Ashley so they could talk about the challenges of having a parent in politics.

The senator added that his children view Biden to be a grandfather figure. The former vice president has been supportive of Coons' political career, campaigning for him in each of his races.

Coons' wife, Annie, is a close friend of Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau Biden.

“All three of my kids have known Joe their whole lives," Coons told The Post. >

Presumably he has her permission to speak on the matter. If he didn't, he'd risk her saying he's wrong. If she's not in the public eye, she may not wish to become a national focus. She and her siblings knew Biden all their lives; he was a grandfatherly presence.

There are 2 photos. They are similar, and in both the woman has an odd expression. In neither does the woman have an issue with Biden's attempt at comforting or whatever.

32. It was Stephanie Carter's statement I read, I think. Coons' father made the statement for Coons.
Tue Apr 2, 2019, 07:25 PM
Apr 2019

It was something about her being nervous or something, so Biden, a family friend, was comforting her. Something like that. There are TWO photos: one of Stephanie Carter and one of Sen Coon's daughter. MAYBE IT WAS STEPHANIE CARTER'S statement I heard.

I don't have cable, so I listen to podcasts of cable news, so I only HEAR the programs. I can't see them.

I listen to MSNBC mainly, so it would be my guess that's where I heard it.

I found Stephanie Carter's statement:

"The Joe Biden in my picture is a close friend helping someone get through a big day, for which I will always be grateful," Carter wrote.

She wrote that she felt "uncharacteristically nervous" after falling on the ice before her husband's swearing-in ceremony and that Biden was offering support when the photo was taken in 2015.

"After the swearing in, as Ash was giving remarks, he leaned in to tell me 'thank you for letting him do this' and kept his hands on my shoulders as a means of offering his support," Carter wrote.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/joe-bidens-staff-pushes-back-false-interpretation-photos/story?id=62090936

COONS: Her father spoke on her behalf, as I think we've all heard/read:

In the photo, she appeared uncomfortable as Biden whispered in her ear, but Coons told the Post that his children view Biden as a grandfather figure and that Biden was praising his daughter’s composure when the photo was taken.

"She did not think of it as anything," Coons told the newspaper. "All three of my kids have known Joe their whole lives."

I don't know who the Coons woman is. But if she is not a public figure, she is probably uncomfortable speaking in public. I doubt her father would presume to speak on her behalf, without her permission, since she could contradict him, if she wanted.

All Coons' children view Biden as a grandfatherly figure and have known him all their lives, he said.

There really is nothing to all these things, and I'm getting tired of people trying to Franken him. It worked that one time against Franken because it was the politicians who fell for it. Not the public. This time, it's the public they're trying to get to Franken him, and we can see what's going on. It's not going to work.

He's like a grandfather to all the Coons kids. Coons' wife is bffs with Joe's daughter-in-law. The two families are very close.

Biden's a touchy, feely guy. Always has been. He's just that way. It seems creepy these days, but in the old days, it was considered a friendly thing. Nothing untoward about it.

I suspect he'll reign that in, with the me, too movement upon us.

But there's nothing to see with these gals, as far as I'm concerned. In fact, the fact that he's being targeted by the Sanders camp has made me move Biden up a notch in my short list. Sanders was never in my list at all, or I could move him down.
