Bernie Sanders' immense fundraising haul reflects a resilient movement

By EVAN HALPER and JANET HOOK APR 02, 2019
WASHINGTON

Bernie Sanders put to rest any suggestion that the movement behind him has faded since his first run for president as his campaign team announced Tuesday that he had raised an immense amount of cash from a huge number of donors.

Sanders’ campaign collected $18.2 million from 525,000 donors – most of them under age 39 – in the first quarter of 2019, campaign officials said. The intimidating show of financial force will likely position Sanders to compete aggressively in every key state, giving him more resources than most of his rivals.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/bernie-sanders-2020-fundraising-haul-dollar182-million-raised-in-first-quarter

That total came from 525,000 contributors (20 percent of whom were new contributors to the campaign) with the average contribution being $20. The campaign said that the majority of donors were under the age of 39 and that they accumulated 900,000 donations.

Most people were told to expect that sanders would raise more than $20 million given that he had raised over $10 million in his first week https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/trump-turns-2020-election-referendum-health-care-n989926

Bernie Sanders raised $5.9 million in his first 24 hours, and appears to be on pace to raise more than $20 million for the quarter after announcing on February 19.

sanders also felled short of the 1 million contributions he promised.

He had $5,455,167.90 remaining in his 2016 presidential campaign treasury.

He had $9,094,921.30 remaining in his 2018 senate campaign treasury.

That's a total of $14,550,089.20. We need to see the actual FEC report to see how much, if any, was applied to the 2020 campaign treasury.

Can we just be happy for all our candidates when they do well please?
