Kamala Harris tells Glassdoor: "It's Time to Make Equal Pay a Reality for All Americans"
Kamala Harris @KamalaHarris 2 Apr 2019
Young women should grow up knowing their work is worth just as much as anyone elses. Its time to make equal pay a reality for all Americans.
from Glassdoor:
The former California Attorney General and California Senator is currently running for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States and is not holding back when it comes to gender equality.Equal pay isnt only about fairness and justice for women its about justice for families, Harris tells Glassdoor exclusively. Today, 4 out of 10 mothers are their familys primary or only wage earner and yet they still make just [79] cents on average for every dollar their male coworkers are paid and the pay disparity is even more alarming for women of color. Less money in a womans pocket means less money to pay for gas and groceries. It means less for childcare and college tuition. And, because the pay gap persists after leaving the workforce, it means less for retirement.
New research from the Glassdoor Economic Research team shows the unadjusted pay gap between men and women in the U.S. is 21.4%, meaning women earn, on average, 79¢ for every $1 men earn. Incredibly, it remains even in the same job, same company, same education, age and experience. For women who earn more than a median wage a computer programmer for example (one of the occupations we found with a pay gap) they could be losing a lot more each year. For example, if a woman earns $100,000 per year, with a 4.9% gap, she loses about $4,900 per year or more than $147,000 over the course of a 30-year career.
For Harris the gender pay gap isnt just a present imperative, its vital to the future success of all Americans.
Our daughters should grow up knowing their work is worth just as much as anyone elses, says Harris.

This is a topic that should be front and center with all of our candidates.
This line really hit the spot:
Our daughters should grow up knowing their work is worth just as much as anyone elses, says Harris."
I have a daughter and I could not agree more. A persons worth has nothing to do with their gender!
