Bernie Sanders Takes Back Promise To Release Medical Records 4 Months After Suffering....

Bernie Sanders Takes Back Promise To Release Medical Records 4 Months After Suffering Heart Attack At Age 78

Less than four months after he was felled by a heart attack at age 78, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders claims that he is in 'good health,'

Less than four months after he was felled by a heart attack during a campaign appearance, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders — who is currently polling second in the race for the Democratic 2020 presidential nomination, according to the Real Clear Politics average of all polls — has now reneged on his earlier promise to release his full medical records. Sanders took back his pledge during an interview with Chuck Todd of NBC News on Sunday morning.

Now 78 years old, Sanders would be 79 by the time of the 2020 presidential election, making him easily the oldest person ever elected president if he were to win the November 3 general election. Donald Trump holds the current record for oldest candidate ever elected to a first term as president. He was 70 years old on November 8, 2016, when he won that year’s election.

According to the American Heart Association, one of every five heart attack victims suffers a second coronary incident within five years of the first one. Americans suffer 335,000 “recurrent” heart attacks every year — that is, heart attacks that are not the victim’s first. A 2018 study published by The Journal of the American Heart Association found that the median life expectancy of Americans over the age of 75 who have suffered a heart attack is 3.1 years.

In other words, half of all heart attack victims age 75 and older survive longer than 3.1 years — but half die before reaching that mark.

I don't think he makes a lot of charitable donations, though he explained this by saying that he thought government should provide a lot of the services others donate for. You can plug in his age + heart attack status, estimated weight and height into a calc and it tells you chance of a cardia event in next 10 years. I suspect his records will indicate an ominous prognosis.

Sanders also told Karl that he intends to release his medical records "as soon as we can," which would include his updated medical details after his heart attack.

He promised the campaign would release "all of the information that's available," and added that he believes that same standard should "should be applicable to all candidates."

"I think when you're running for president of the United States," he said, "the American people have a right to know the condition of your health."

(although I'm an oncologist, not a cardiologist), is one of two things. First is that he likely had some blockages that were 'marginal' and could have been electively treated if he was willing to be off the campaign trail for a week or so. Since he was back relatively quickly, he likely deferred that treatment until after the election - hoping that it wouldn't become problematic. If he had all diagnosed blockages taken care of at the time, there would be no problem hiding his medical records.

The second possibility is that his blood pressure is not well controlled - something that would be well documented in a cardiac patient's medical records. High blood pressure that is not responding well to medication is a big red flag for future coronary events.

https://vtdigger.org/2019/12/30/sanders-doctors-say-he-is-in-good-health/

Three months after suffering a heart attack, Sen. Bernie Sanders is in both good physical and mental health, his doctors say.

In letters released by the Sanders campaign Monday, three of the senator’s doctors gave him a clean bill of health as he continues to campaign around the country in his bid to be the next president of the United States.

“You are in good health currently and you have been engaging vigorously in the rigors of your campaign, travel, and other scheduled activities without any limitation,” Brian Monahan, attending physician of the U.S. Congress wrote.
In December, Sanders underwent physical testing at the University of Vermont Medical Center which found there was no evidence of reduced blood flow to his heart or symptoms that would cause Sanders to stop exercising.
“Mr. Sanders was able to exercise to a level that is approximately 50% higher than other men his age with a similar diagnosis,” Ades wrote in his letter.

“I see no reason he cannot continue campaigning without limitation and, should he be elected, I am confident he has the mental and physical stamina to fully undertake the rigors of the presidency,” LeWinter added in his own letter.
Monahan wrote that Sanders has never had symptoms of heart failure before October and that now, after recent testing, there is “no significant heart rhythm abnormality.”

thinner since he has a history of aneurysms and an almost fatal blood clot. A letter summary from Biden's doctor is good but a letter summary from Bernie's doctors isn't good enough?

The 2020 Democratic contender's release also includes the results of a physical exam by Dr. Kevin O'Connor, Biden's primary care doctor since 2009 and the director of executive medicine at The George Washington Medical Faculty Associates.
O'Connor wrote that Biden is "a healthy, vigorous, 77-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency."

Biden is being treated for non-valvular atrial fibrillation, or AFib -- an irregular heartbeat that O'Connor said Biden experiences no symptoms of. He takes Crestor to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as Eliquis to prevent blood clots, Nexium for acid reflux, and Allegra and a nasal spray for seasonal allergies.

else in his medical record. Because I got to tell you, at a very healthy 60 I have two things that would go into the report. Not end of world but like Bidens stuff, we all have something. All we got was 80 yr old Sanders heart is fine. Doesn't sound complete like Bidens at all.

then back out on that promise?

After he said he would release "comprehensive" records by the end of the year?

Sanders plans to release health records by end of year

The 78-year-old Vermont senator has repeatedly promised to release his health records at some point, but he outlined a likely timeline in an interview with The Associated Press.

“I want to make it comprehensive,” Sanders said in explaining the delay. “The answer is I will, probably by the end of the year.”

https://www.businessinsider.com/bernie-sanders-heart-attack-medical-records-campaign-2019-10

“The American people have a right to know whether the person they’re going to be voting for for president is healthy,” Sanders said at the time. “And we will certainly release our medical records before the primary.”

Sanders told host Jonathan Karl that he intends to release his medical records "as soon as we can," with "all of the information that's available," and added that he believes that same standard should "should be applicable to all candidates."

I guess Bernie's shown that he's healthy enough to move goalposts....

Every bad outcome is the media’s fault.

It goes beyond the hypocrisy. We don’t really expect him to keep his promises.

It’s the absurdity of it all. America is not going to elect an 80 yr old who just had a heart attack. Especially when his campaign first denied it and now they are obviously hiding something.

I just don’t feel Sanders is in it to win it.
