Bloomberg should call on former Mayors like Nutter to step forward on this issue. Due to lack of progress on legistlation like the Brady Bill, guns were pouring into Cities like NYC, Philladelphia, Newark, Boston and were being sold on the street. The guns were used in murders and often innocent people were killed in crossfire during rivalries. It is easy to sit in a Surburban easy chair and critique the tough decisions that Mayors had to make about how to get guns off the streets and let national legistlators such as Sanders very much so due to his repeated votes against the Brady Bill) and Biden (who was a Senator at that time) off the hook. Bloomberg needs to turn the attack back on people like Sanders and Biden, they were, especially Sanders culpable in allowing guns to flood into NYC from states that had very lax gun laws - federal legistlation would have ended that traffic and helped big city Mayors out.

his commitment at the moment seems to second to none
he is supporting democrats and will support democrats even without the nomination

I am absolutely confident he won't have a hissy fit at the convention and cause the 2024 election to be screwed up

I think he has proven ability to manage a major US city and the US city with the most international contact and influence due to the UN

He has proven he will raise taxes instead of cutting services

he has done over-reach and he doesn't seem to spend much time on intraspection or regret. Regret is overrated...changing is what is required....

rump are on target.

Bloomberg has been in a political office before, mayor, which if you want my opinion (and I was city manager at one time for a relatively small town), that is one of the harder jobs around, being that you literally are coordinating with every governmental agency there is, and to boot, employees of all types, in short, a little more to the ground than most of the politicians we see on a national level.

Perhaps some of the national politicians started from local elected offices but then for a lot of them, how long ago was their service? Maybe if they are aggressive in helping their local jurisdictions on federal-related issues, perhaps some experience is being gamed, but I don't know. I can't just imagine a republican senator or house rep descending down to the trenches to help some local natives of their state (imho).

Repugs have reams of oppo on Sanders they've been saving in case he gets the nod. It's surprising to me so few of his supporters have even vetted him.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287502598

(by Kurt Eichenwald, article from Nov. 2016)

So what would have happened when Sanders hit a real opponent, someone who did not care about alienating the young college voters in his base? I have seen the opposition book assembled by Republicans for Sanders, and it was brutal. The Republicans would have torn him apart. And while Sanders supporters might delude themselves into believing that they could have defended him against all of this, there is a name for politicians who play defense all the time: losers.
..
Then there's the fact that Sanders was on unemployment until his mid-30s, and that he stole electricity from a neighbor after failing to pay his bills, and that he co-sponsored a bill to ship Vermont's nuclear waste to a poor Hispanic community in Texas, where it could be dumped. You can just see the words "environmental racist" on Republican billboards. And if you can't, I already did. They were in the Republican opposition research book as a proposal on how to frame the nuclear waste issue.

If you think the repugs won't though, that would be extremely naive.

It's surprising and so discouraging to me that so few people know about the tons of baggage Sanders is lugging around, and don't seem to even want to know—the Sandanista stuff, the Castro stuff, the Socialist Workers Party stuff, the Moscow honeymoon stuff, and on and on and on.

We'll get hit with a freight train of this oppo research if he gets the nomination and trump will get four more years.

People need to wake up and stop acting like it's nothing.

Wed Feb 12, 2020, 08:32 PM
Feb 2020

She had 1000 pages of oppo research on him, but used almost none of it. Trump has all that and more and he will not hesitate to use anything.
This article explains some of it:
https://www.newsweek.com/myths-cost-democrats-presidential-election-521044

They ignored the fact that Sanders had not yet faced a real campaign against him. Clinton was in the delicate position of dealing with a large portion of voters who treated Sanders more like the Messiah than just another candidate. She was playing the long game—attacking Sanders strongly enough to win, but gently enough to avoid alienating his supporters.

77. What about national legistlators that allowed guns to flood into
Wed Feb 12, 2020, 08:52 PM
Feb 2020

big cities from states that had lax gun laws? Biden is very culpable there and Bernie is totally exposed given his stout opposition to bills that would have limited guns and regulated them. Big city Mayors were left with a problem, allow guns to stay on the streets, of remove those guns from the streets somehow - Stop and Frisk was a brutish way to do that.

I challenge you, if guns were flooding into your city and you were Mayor, HOW would you remove them and reduce gun violence? It is easy to look at a policy in a detached, academic mode and hindsight is always perfect, my challenge to you, if you were a Mayor in the moment, how would you deal with guns being trafficked around your city?

I think that Bloomberg should be really agressive with Biden and Sanders if they attack him on Stop and Frisk, lay THEIR blame for the problem that was being dealt with at their feet. The only ones that can cleanly criticize Stop and Frisk are Warren (she was not in politics) and Buttigieg (he was a small city Mayor). Sanders in particular has no right to criticize Stop and Frisk and Biden to a large extent can't due to their failure to come up with national legistlation that forced states with lax gun laws to take responsibility for fixing the problems their laws created in big cities.

78. Biden was a national Legistlator that failed to pass national level gun laws.
Wed Feb 12, 2020, 09:01 PM
Feb 2020

Bernie Sanders worked with the gun lobby to defeat passage of national level gun laws. Due to the lack of national level gun laws that forced lax states to become responsible, guns flooded into cities like NYC, Philly, Newark, Boston, other big cities. Mayors of those big cities had to do something, several resorted to Stop and Frisk. Sanders very much so, and Biden are culpable, Bloomberg should not allow them to slip off the hook. Big city Mayor had their backs against the wall, ignore guns on their streets and allow chaos to happen, or go after people that past experience says may be trafficking around guns on city streets.
