Forward Florida Action, a progressive group and political action committee, has begun rolling out Spanish-language ads in South Florida in an effort to engage Latino voters and encourage them to vote.
The ads come as the deadline to register to vote in Florida's 2020 primary nears on Tuesday. The primary takes place March 17, exactly two weeks after Super Tuesday.
Florida, which is 25 percent Latino and 17 percent black, is one of the key battleground states up for grabs this election season. In 2016, President Trump won Florida by less than 1 percentage point.
South Florida has a high Latino population compared to the rest of the state, particularly of Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican and Colombian descent.

(14,565 posts)As soon as Trump was elected in 2016 I emphasized that we should focus on voter registration and stop whining about 2016. Just imagine everything the GOP has been doing behind the scenes while we looked backwards.
I've seen it first hand here in Miami. We are being outworked every year. The GOP is now so brazen in Florida that I have been receiving phone calls and flyers from them, even though I have been a registered Democrat my entire life and have never voted for a Republican for any office.
I mock and scoff at them every time. They don't care. The mailers and phone calls keep coming. I'm convinced they look at demographic specifics and target people based on that. Since I am a white male above 50 they obviously think I am among a persuadable block.
That is the way they operate and IMO it is brilliant. They ignore details like my registration realities and focus on the big picture.
I have received more contact from Republicans than Democrats since I moved back to Florida and registered Democratic in late 2008. That is not an exaggeration. Only Donna Shalala's campaign in 2018 found me quickly and contacted me regularly. Otherwise it's like I don't exist.
Whenever you wonder what's happening in Florida...that's what is happening. We do nothing between cycles and then make a late pathetic attempt to patch things in the final few months.
