Democratic Primaries

Its electorate is less than 50% white.https://www.brookings.edu/blog/the-avenue/2020/01/31/just-how-demographically-skewed-are-the-early-democratic-primary-states/
Even though it is a caucus state, it will be informative to see which candidates do well with minority voters in Nevada.

(13,871 posts)The chart is correct, but it gives state population, not projected Dem Primary or caucus vote.
In SC, black voters make up about 27% of the population, but they will be almost 2/3 of the primary vote on Feb 29.

Same thing for SC, of course.
In any case, there will be MANY more minority voters taking part in Nevada than in either Iowa or New Hampshire.
It will be enlightening to see how all the candidates do with those voters.

Iowa and NH were mostly white voters. SC will be mostly AA voters.
Nevada will be the most diverse electorate, having the mixture.

(10,749 posts)There are any number of ways to analyze stats.
Racial diversity, economic diversity, population mobility, education. Books have been written.
Yes, I know, you're looking at racial diversity, and that's fine, as far as it goes. But there are other factors that don't show up in statistics.
As someone posted, it doesn't identify the number of non-white registered Democrats. It doesn't measure political participation. Also, white is divided into non-Hispanic white and Hispanic white. (That said, I don't know how many/most Hispanic people characterize themselves, so those numbers may be suspect in some ways. It's too easy to either comment with broad generalizations or get down into the weeds. Neither is particularly productive. To say nothing of cherry-picking stats to make an argument.
BTW, I came across this USG site: https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045219. That's the total for the US. Enter the state for more localized info. Useful, I think, but, again, only as far as it goes.

(5,376 posts)But, if anyone wants to try and downplay Nevada's overwhelmingly obvious diversity, well, I say let them have at it. lol
That won't change the facts on the ground.
