Is it possible Bloomberg entered the race to re-elect trump, by taking votes from Biden, Amy, and

Pete for the same block of votes, and effectively giving Sanders the nomination, assuming Sanders will lose against Trump?

It's pretty clear that his entire reason for living at the moment is to get rid of Trump. He hates Trump on a visceral level.

I'm not even sure he wants (or wanted) to win the nomination, but running provided a platform and freedom to hack away at Trump pretty much non-stop.

I don't begin to deny Bloomberg has his own agenda and motivations, but at this point, I'd have a very hard time being convinced the majority of it does not align with our own--get rid of Trump and quickly begin repairing the damage. That said, I'm not prepared to support him for multiple reasons--unless he gets the nomination. In that event, it is a no-brainer.

He could have just enjoyed his life and thrown his billions-dollar-campaign machine behind Trump.

Or he could have waited, which is what he probably planned to do (I mean, wait until around summer to really start spending money), and just sat back and let Bernie be the front runner. But so much changed so quickly, he stepped up his spending (he doubled it).

Why on earth would he go to this trouble? And this expense? When all is said and done, I predict he spends at least two and a half billion dollars (based on his current burn rate of $38 a second).

I think it's exactly like another DUer put it, "he doesn't give a shit if he's president or not" he just wants to jump into this fight to make sure Trump is annihilated.

People forget something: Mike Bloomberg has a life. And this fiasco will probably take a couple of years off it.

The best way to get Trump elected was for him to do nothing and not spend a cent unless it was at the last minute to help Trump directly. His life expectancy will probably drop slightly for jumping into this from the stress and the attacks he's about to endure.

I don't mean to be rude... but jesus christ.

I think Bloomberg's run is more ego driven than a desire for Trump to win, but the results of his run could be devastating for the Democratic Party.

We currently have 8 people running for the nomination:

On the Lefty Left we Have:

Sanders
Warren

In the more Moderate section we have:

Klobuchar
Buttigieg
Bloomberg
Biden
Steyers
Gabbard

The thing is, about 50% of the Democratic Party is Liberal, and about 50% is Moderate or Conservative.
This means that Bernie and Warren are splitting about half the Democratic vote 2 ways, while Buttigieg, Bloomberg, Biden, and Klobuchar will be splitting the other half of Democratic voters, the Moderate and Conservative half, 6 ways. Also, a lot of the Liberal/Progressives are leaning more toward Sanders than Warren. This is why Sanders has been leading in votes. There are a lot more candidates representing the Moderates and Conservatives than are representing the Lefty/Liberal/Progressive section. If, for example, 51% of Democrats are either Moderates or Conservatives, the Democratic Party could end up with a nominee that the majority of Democrats do not want.

If anything, the opposite. He’s getting in because he wants to stop Trump, and probably believes Sanders needs to be kept from getting the nomination if Trump’s going to be defeated. I don’t particularly agree, and it’s tbd what effect him getting in will actually have, but i’m pretty confident he doesn’t want Trump to win or Bernie to be the Dem nominee.

Bloomberg's in it for power, nothing else. He's always going to have more than enough money to buy anything that a normal human being could ever possibly want, now he's using it to buy the presidency, by first purchasing the nomination.

It's a pissing match between two enormous egos, and we're the ones who will have to deal with the trickle-down.

45. For all of my antipathy for Bloomberg

I do believe he hates Trump and wants him out.

I also believe that Bloomberg's ego is telling him he is the only one who can achieve that, all other candidates will fall short.

My worst case scenario is if Bloomberg isn't given the Democratic nomination, his ego will continue to tell him he can beat Trump. That then he will renege his promises to support the nominee and run his own campaign as a second Democrat or change again to Independent.

Especially since Bloomberg already said that even if he doesn't win, he'll put all his money towards helping the nominee against Trump. He's putting his money where his mouth is. I've got to give him respect for that.

Blumenthal may very well draw support from other moderate candidates, and from Warren as well, which would be detrintal to Sanders' campaign if that occurred.

is that he and other billionaires have seen just how flimsy our rail guards are and they are imagining what can be accomplished behind the scenes.

But again, my worries are just based on not knowing or trusting Bloomberg yet. I haven't seen any ads or heard him speak yet.
