Sanders statement: Harassment "unacceptable" and he urges "supporters of all campaigns" to stop it

But Bernie, the problem is with YOUR campaign...

More news: @BernieSanders weighs in on @Culinary226 non-endorsement, but also the harassment they’ve experienced: “Harassment of all forms is unacceptable to me, and we urge supporters of all campaigns not to engage in bullying or ugly personal attacks.”
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

In December 2019, I attended a Bernie Sanders town hall held by the Culinary Union 226 in Las Vegas and I witnessed a paid organizer rallying a small group to heckle Senator Bernie Sanders. This was right after a staged question about how Senator Sanders would accommodate the union to keep our insurance during and after the implementation of Medicare For All. Positing that all the members want to keep their union insurance instead of Medicare For All. For me, that couldn’t be further from the truth. I need to speak from my own perspective since I have been erased from the conversation. Despite the uncanny familiarity of The Irishman film, the promise of being shunned or worse by a huge portion of the 60,000 and the fact that I’m one of the few active people who work at my particular restaurant, I still won’t cower in fear from fascism in any form: foreign or domestic. I would trade my union insurance for Medicare For All today.

The union isn't going to rise up and destroy him. They didn't even endorse Biden, despite the fact that the leader is buddies with Neera Tanden and the centrists at CAP. I was canvassing for Warren a couple weeks ago (Iowa). Knocked on the door of a 28 yr old. She was listed on the form as leaning Klobuchar. This was the second round of canvasing where we try to nail down support.
When she came to the door, she must not have seen my Warren sticker on my coat. But as soon as I said who I was volunteering for she cut me off and said, "I'm going with Amy. I would NEVER vote for Warren." "Or Sanders." She made a point of adding Sanders to her statement. Not sure why since I had nothing to do with the Sanders campaign.

I tried to thank her and wish her a good day but couldn't finish the sentence before the door was slammed in my face. Needless to say her tone was not so nice.

I knocked on 77 doors that day. She was the worst.

Fri Feb 14, 2020, 10:49 AM
Feb 2020

about the NYT piece that updates how many lies Trump has told so far. Dismissing facts reported about Trump as 'myths' and the media en mass as liars...

That's the hill you've chosen to die on?

All "myths" eh?

The 'swarm': How a subset of Sanders supporters use hostile tactics to drown out critics

[link:Or their supporters Working Families Party Staffers Face Harassment After Warren Endorsement

Trump's MAGA supporters and some Twitter Sanders supporters have this ugly tactic in common

The attacks against Warren come from the same corners of social media that disparage Democrats (like myself) as being “puppets,” “centrist,” “anti-Semitic, and “ageist” for having the audacity to question or scrutinize their chosen leader. People of color and women who dare to disagree with Sanders’ political assertions have often borne the brunt of this abuse.

Sanders supporters have weaponized Facebook to spread angry memes about his Democratic rivals

No other Democrat’s supporters are engaged in behavior on a similar scale, which is more characteristic of the online movement galvanized by Trump. The president’s campaign aides have credited Facebook with his victory in 2016, when he poured money into advertising on the platform while also using organic posts on social media to speak directly to his followers, who responded with a torrent of posts backing him and lacerating his opponents.

[link:https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/27/us/politics/bernie-sanders-internet-supporters-2020.html|Bernie Sanders and His Internet Army
At the start of his 2020 bid, the Vermont senator told his supporters that he condemned bullying. Is it his problem if many don’t seem to listen?]

Some progressive activists who declined to back Mr. Sanders have begun traveling with private security after incurring online harassment. Several well-known feminist writers said they had received death threats. A state party chairwoman changed her phone number. A Portland lawyer saw her business rating tumble on an online review site after tussling with Sanders supporters on Twitter.

Other notable targets have included Ady Barkan, a prominent liberal activist with A.L.S. — whom some Sanders-cheering accounts accused of lacking decision-making faculties due to his illness as he prepared to endorse Senator Elizabeth Warren — and Fred Guttenberg, the father of a shooting victim from the 2018 Parkland massacre, who had criticized Mr. Sanders’s statements about gun violence.

“Politics is a contact sport,” said Bakari Sellers, a former South Carolina State legislator who supported Ms. Harris in the Democratic primary. “But you have to be very cognizant when you say anything critical of Bernie online. You might have to put your phone down. There’s going to be a blowback, and it could be sexist, racist and vile.”

Are these statements by Bernie also a "media myth?" Why is he the only candidate who has needed to their supporters to stop the harassment?

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/24/politics/sanders-letter-to-surrogates/index.html

Sen. Bernie Sanders condemned "bullying and harassment of any kind" Saturday in an email urging people representing his 2020 campaign in the media to act respectfully.

"Let us do our very best to engage respectfully with our Democratic opponents - talking about the issues we are fighting for, not about personalities or past grievances," Sanders wrote. "I want to be clear that I condemn bullying and harassment of any kind and in any space."

The email, which a source provided to CNN Sunday, came less than a week after Sanders officially announced his candidacy for president. The letter dissuades supporters from using personal attacks on Sanders' behalf, saying that the campaign message and rhetoric needs to be the opposite of President Donald Trump's.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/sanders-tells-supporters-to-cool-it--but-they-dont-always-listen/2020/01/23/5635859e-3c64-11ea-baca-eb7ace0a3455_story.html

Some close Sanders allies acknowledged the difficulty of balancing the passions of his loyal backers, inspired by his calls for a political revolution and his staunchly liberal platform, with the need to demonstrate a broader unity. The task is crucial, they said, as Sanders seeks to woo Democrats in Iowa, where voters are known for rejecting negative politics, ahead of the state’s Feb. 3 caucuses.

in not having to face the "Wrath of Bernie," who's unafraid to shine the light of truth on their vile and disgusting conservative agenda, which has plagued the working class and low income folks in this country for WAY too fuckin' long. It's that agenda we should all be booing, not each other, and that's the united message Bernie is delivering to the electorate and what is fueling Bernie's surge in the polls, precisely as I've been predicting for quite some time.

Instead of reaching across the aisle, and trying to work with those fascist pigs, President Sanders' considerable coattails will allow him to capture all three branches of Government, and thus fight tooth and nail on behalf of We The People, who have suffered mightily at the hands of the RethugliKKKon ruling class and their Wall Street elite buddies.

That's whom we should ALL be booing every single day, along with their wretched jack-booted thug tactics, leading up to that glorious day when Bernie is elected President. Under President Sanders' vigilant watch, no longer would those Rethug Nazis be allowed to strip the less fortunate of their most basic, undeniable human rights. Those rights include, but are not limited to, access to universal healthcare, a fair minimum wage, a clean and healthy environment free from the devastating effects of climate change, a fair criminal system purged of hateful racial injustice, along with other fundamental Constitutional rights that RepubelicKKKons trample on daily.

No, that's where their luck finally runs out... the ordinary folks on Main Street, not the corporate elites on Wall Street, will finally have their champion, in Bernie, who will stop those motherfuckers dead in their tracks!! How UNlucky for them that will be... though the booing of those deplorable tRumpian pieces of shit, who landed us in this mess, should NEVER stop!!

Sanders: I'm 'prepared to work with' Trump

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said Wednesday he is willing to collaborate with President-elect Donald Trump going forward but warned he would "strongly oppose" the Republican should he continue to pursue his most extreme policy proposals.

Acknowledging Trump's success in taping into economic resentment in his astounding electoral win Wednesday morning, Sanders cast Trump's candidacy in a light similar to his own failed presidential run during the Democratic primaries.

“Donald Trump tapped into the anger of a declining middle class that is sick and tired of establishment economics, establishment politics and the establishment media," the senator said in a statement released Wednesday.

Trump And Sanders Try To Show New Hampshire They Can Reach Across The Aisle
In a presidential election season that’s seen plenty of partisan fights, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Bernie Sanders were among the candidates in Manchester, New Hampshire, Monday who were promising to reach across the political aisle if elected.

As WBUR's Fred Bever reported both men were out to demonstrate that they are practitioners of the art of compromise.

While often viewed as a pesky left-wing gadfly, he is also known to reach across the aisle, working on legislation with Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa and Senator John McCain of Arizona, both Republicans. He has rationalized voting for the 1994 crime bill, now heavily criticized for some of its draconian provisions, by saying he had favored progressive parts of the bill, including the Violence Against Women Act, while strongly opposing measures that would lead to mass incarceration.

Bernie Sanders’ Republican Buddy Reaches Across the Aisle To Endorse Clinton

Sanders’ longtime friend Tony Pomerleau, a prominent Republican businessman and developer in Sanders’ hometown of Burlington, Vermont, offered his support for Clinton this week, framing his endorsement in a historical context.

Said Pomerleau:

I am a loyal Republican born in 1917 and the first time a woman could vote was in 1919,” the letter reads. “I will be most happy to cast my vote to the first woman president of the United States of America. I am a loyal friend of Bernie Sanders and in Vermont they call us the ‘Odd Couple.’”

I know a number of Bernie supporters in real life. Most of them are kind, thoughtful, considerate people. One is a stereotypical "bro," who is sexist, obnoxious, over the top in his characterizations of other candidates, especially female candidates. He is a bully. His emails go directly to my spam filter because I don't want to be assaulted by his bizarre rants.

My experience is not unique. Bernie has a sub-culture of supporters who represent him very poorly. He needs to get control of them and tell them to knock it off.

I said as much a few weeks ago over the Joe Rogan endorsement. I don't have a problem with Bernie, or his platform. I don't have a problem with most of his supporters. But, he certainly has some very toxic and very loud supporters, and has for years. I saw a some of it here and there in 2016, and, it seems to have gotten worse here in 2020.

From tearing down all other candidates (ESPECIALLY women) to "I don't care about your f*ggot issues" (yes, I had one of them tell me that in 2016), the toxicity of some of his worst supporters seems inseparable from the Red Hats. That, more than "Bernie's a socialist!" worries me the most about him winning the primaries. Are these "bros" (who, again, are in the minority - but also quite loud) going to get louder if that happens?

No, as you said, your experience is not unique. And, while it may be "unfair", it's such experiences that have me backing Warren here in 2020. Like Bernie, but without the bros.

How hard would it be, Bernie, to just tell this group of toxic supporters to STFU and quit being assholes? To tell them to be better than the goddamned MAGAts who have made everything so toxic in the name of Comrade Covfefe?

Seriously, Bernie. Time to quit saying "supporters of all campaigns" and direct some strong words toward some of the supporters of YOUR campaign.
