Related: About this forumWhen Bernie went on Fox News in 2016 he kinda killed it
(snip)
Bernies supporters are defending him, pointing out that when he appeared on Fox News as a presidential candidate back in 2016 he had some major standout moments, including getting red-state Trump voters to applaud his policy ideas.
Fox News Bret Baier asked Bernie in 2016 what in the world made him believe health care was a human right.
Being a human being, Bernie responded. I believe that if she is poor and you are rich, she is entitled to the same quality health care that you have because she is a human being.

Thus far, Sanders is the only candidate with an announced town hall on Fox News, but another 2020 candidate, Pete Buttigieg, has also expressed an interest in appearing on the conservative news network. In an appearance on The View last month, Buttigieg said that it was important to leverage Fox News massive audience to explain his viewpoints.

(67,782 posts)Now, back to the issue, where are the tax returns he promised three years ago and again in February.
PS - I looked into it, that two-stage release of his 2 pages then 5 subsequent pages was NOT his complete tax return for 2014.

Why do you need to see Bernie's tax returns when you can see what he discloses annually on his Senate financial disclosure form?

Let's say candidate X spent $20 million on TV ads (from the disclosure statements) ... then, if said candidate X received a $2 million commission or placement fee which was paid to a domestic or offshore entity, those $2 million won't be in the FDS. However, the tax returns would show that money.

(173 posts)that he wouldn't run on a third-party, example, even though he was keeping his word that he would support the winner of the Democrratic primary. I criticized him in 2016 for his lack of foreign policy experience and, in parrticular, the lack of a clearly defined policy towards Israel. I criticize him now for not having the kind of detailed and workable plans that Warren is laying out. I criticize him for saying he is going to do various things like give everyone healthcare, instead of saying he will work to achieve these things as goals. I have no problem criticizing him for not yet releasing his tax returns (even though most of the other candidates haven't either). But these are all fact-based criticisms, not vague unsubstantiated generalizations.
The main reasons Sanders has a loyal following is that--overall--he has been trying to move the country in a progressive direction throughout his entire adult life. He's not perfect; I don't agree with every vote or proposal; I don't even necessarily like listening to his stump speeches. But in policy matters, his heart has consistently been in the right place. Many other candidates can be shown to have sacrificed principles for their careers in ways that he has not.

Unless of course you just wish to slam all white people that happen to get their information from the highest rated corporate media conglomerate in the nation in terms of viewership in which case the video and truth of how Bernie's message resonates will mean nothing to you.

(42,862 posts)You're on the right track. Considering the demographics of Vermont and its lack of diversity, it makes sense that his messaging would tend to resonate well with a similar crowd.
It reminds me of his recent appearance in an historically black church in North Charleston, SC where fewer than 1% of the crowd were black. Yet in Kamala Harris's visit to the same location, the diversity of those in attendance closely mirrored the actual ethnic diversity of North Charleston.
This is no accident. It's undeniable that Bernie definitely has much difficulty trying to "connect" with all voters. His message and priorities clearly don't resonate with AA voters and POC.

I wouldnt vote for Sanders at this point and he shouldnt latch on and off the D wagon at will the way he does, but he has that avuncular Jewish champion of the common man thing going and carries himself well. I think there are too many ambiguities at play at this point, and I know that you despise him because of Hillary. But yes, I think he is charismatic.
