Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumSeriously---no snark or "blindered" comments, please---which Democrat can best
unite all factions of the party? Why?
( Note, please: I am NOT asking who would be your choice for POTUS. )
Though she is not "first pick", I believe Elizabeth Warren might be the best "uniter". Though from our "liberal wing", her serious and thoughtful approach appeals, IMHO, to a large spectrum of our party and, whether you agree with all her positions or not (i do not), I believe she passes the "good person" test. I could proudly and enthusiastically support Liz Warren.

(571 posts)I also think it is true about Amy Klobuchar.
I think a woman candidate can best heal any divide.

(25,183 posts)but if Steyer can pull out second place in Nevada, then first place in South Carolina, I look for him to spend like crazy in the two days before Super Tuesday. There is no "inevitable" nominee going into ST this time around, and people will be in a situation where they face a larger-than-normal set of choices. Advertising could make a difference.
I saw Steyer's behavior during the Sanders-Warren spat at the end of the Iowa debate, and he was just trying to be friendly to both of them. When asked what they said, he declined to reveal any of the ugliness of it. He has not knocked any other Democratic candidate in the debates or in his advertising, and he could be a unifying force.
The Sanders supporters will go ballistic if Bloomberg comes away with the nomination, and the people who are attracted by Bloomie's money can wrap themselves around Steyer's willingness to spend his own money to fight Trump. He makes a good consensus candidate if it comes down to the scenario I've described.

(1,584 posts)She can unite the party. And if she does not win the nomination, she will likely be the one helping the most to bring everyone together.

(38,958 posts)I am not sure any of them can do so enough to beat Trump. I recall PUMAs from years ago and other attempts to factionalize the party.

(10,435 posts)Probably wouldn't be a candidate whose supporters can't even post on a thread like this without poking the sharp stick (and not giving an actual answer)
Warren is such a close second choice for me that I'd be equally happy if she gets the nomination, and goes on to kick MF45 and his grifting trashy family out of the People's House.

(1,115 posts)You will never find a more inoffensive candidate I think.
I think she would throw Trump for a loop, too, especially with Bloomberg pouring in the money.

(146,338 posts)Amy is a bipartisan sort of person. Because of that, there are things she has supported that will cause alarm among progressives. Serious alarm. Those things have not been raised, because she's not a risk for knocking Bernie out of the race. If she were such a risk, they'd be treating her like they're treating Bloomberg.
Senator Klobuchar is a pragmatist. She will support something that Republicans like if it's relatively harmless, in her opinion, and if it will help her get support for something she would like to do.
She's been very effective as a legislator, both in Minnesota and in the Senate, for that very reason. But, she's not getting the kind of vetting from the progressive wing that she would if she had a real chance at the nomination.
Amy's going to start fading on Super Tuesday. She'll probably do OK in Minnesota, but nowhere else really, in those 14 states. Single digit results in those, and falling after March 4.
She might get the not as a VP nominee, depending on who wins the presidential nomination. I'd like that. She's a hard worker with a very good heart. She'd be a good presidential candidate down the road, too. Not this year, though. Trump's too hard to beat, and she really couldn't do it. Maybe in 2024, if we get one of the old guys as our nominee. Even in 2028, maybe.

(7,424 posts)She's progressive, particularly on economic issues, but she knows how to work with a team. I'm a bit surprised she hasn't made a comeback. Yeah, she stumbled a bit on her plan reveals, but at least she has plans to reveal that consist of more than:
1) Plan!
2) Revolution!
3) Worker's Paradise!
