I'm really serious. I'd like to hear from Bernie supporters about good reasons why.
Thank you.

(2,706 posts)Because when people say Bernie has lost 1/2 his support from 2016 the response from Sanders supporters is that more people are running.
But I agree with you. If your top pick ran in 2016, then you should still be with him in 2020. No matter how many others are running.

(1,665 posts)There weren't a lot of choices in 2016. It's certainly possible that there's a better candidate available to choose from out of the pile this year, than either of the candidates in 2016.
Being the best in a group of A and B four years ago, doesn't equate to being the best in a group of A, C, D, E, F, G, and H this year.
It's not like a sports team, where you're "Ride or Die for Team XXXX" and changing teams is a betrayal. It's about who the best candidate is each cycle.
Now it's possible that you think Bernie really is the best candidate in 2020, but "Because I supported him before" is not really a good reason (in itself) to support him now.

(15,265 posts)I also have a lot of respect and admiration for Senator Warren. While I followed a job out of my native Massachusetts in 2015 I voted for Senator Warren back in 2012. I have photo of my oldest daughter standing side by side with the Senator in her D.C. office. Were Bernie not in the race, she would be my first choice..

(39,385 posts)Really. Thats a former Yang supporter who for some reason isnt keen on Warren and is just winging it. Bernie, to your point, has been saying the same thing about the economy for 40 years.

(20,709 posts)--He's doing better in polls. That means that the best chance for a progressive nominee right now is Bernie. If Warren pulls ahead, I might well change to her.
--Watching pundits and people online beat up on Bernie for the stupidest of reasons has pushed me more into his corner.
--When Warren said the thing about Bernie telling her he didn't think a woman could win, that wasn't cool. I'm sure that's what she thought he said, but I'm also sure it's not what he actually said. And it was a private conversation, no reason to go public with what she knew would be a fiery story.
But overall I'd be happy with either of them.

(3,363 posts)But as you can see, she's for whatever reason not doing well in the race so far and it doesn't seem like she has much chance to win. So who is the next closest person to her policy goals and commitment to supporting the 99%? Bernie.

(36,148 posts)Democratic Party candidates -- and you say Warren has not caught on??
No. That's not it. Definitely not it.
We have one major Democratic candidate -- Julian Castro, no less -- who not only endorses her but stumps with her, saying her campaign is tightly organized and on the ground running fast and smart.
Castro could have chosen anyone else. But he chose Warren. DU should care about why he chose her, don't you think?

(5,002 posts)Vermont. He has been on my radar for decades. He's authentic and honest and has been fighting for working and poor as long as I've been aware of politics and politicians. I think Elizabeth has so much to offer. If Bernie weren't in the race, I'd support her but not with as much passion as I do Bernie. The things he's been fighting for so many of the candidates have much more recently come to - or evolved. He was right about the Iraq War. He was right about Wall Street. He and Warren would be a formidable team and I hope if he is our President she is in his administration. I know the Sanders campaign has researched whether someone can be both VP and treasury secretary, although the inquiry didn't rise to the level of an official legal analysis undertaken by the campaign attorney. Although I worry about losing a Senate seat in MA I do think they would be a very strong team and do great things together.
I answered your question - I honestly do not want to get into a debate about my points so hopefully I won't have to ignore a bunch of comments telling me how wrong I am for my decision!

(36,148 posts)others here.
I'll say that Sanders' problematic campaign fringes haven't helped me to support him this time around.
But the most important reason I think Bernie supporters choose him over Elizabeth is the same reason he once told her a woman couldn't win.
Period. They'll never admit it. But all the pro-women candidates people here know it's true.
They fear that any woman nominee will be feared as much as Hillary was, undermined, lied about, smeared, maligned and zombie-chanted about -- all to reinforce the fear that all patriarchalists have about trusting women.
Behind them? Wall Street, bankers, and the corrupt who benefit from women being feared. Especially a bankruptcy and constitutional expert who knows how to root out their boyz club corruptions.
Bernie, who's never built an actual government agency from bottom to top like Warren has -- the whole Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, for chrissake -- or sponsored as many laws that Warren has, will ever be held to a different standard.

(5,002 posts)I feel about Warren. Quite honestly, I thought she would be our first woman President and when Clinton ran against Obama I was very disappointed it wasn't Warren. But I've been a fan of Sanders for decades - just never thought he would run. Once he did - I'm all in. But please don't make statements about women supporters of Sanders and how we feel.
