(40,169 posts)that isn't even a Democrat and never bothered to reach out the the black community.
At least that's what they said about him on this forum in 2016, ad nauseam.

(24,123 posts)Bernie's aggressive progressive message of hope for the working class and low-income voters resonates with ALL demographics... why I told people not to be surprised when Bernie takes Joe's share of the AA vote... turns out I was right!! TBH, it was obvious as hell to anyone who understands basic politics.
Bernie/Elizabeth or Elizabeth/Bernie 2020!!
Either way, they're stronger together & can't be bought!!
Jump on the Bernie Bandwagon & join the revolution!!

(6,212 posts)it all seems to have happened overnight. The polls are being skewed somehow, could be the republicans. Bernie is who the repubs and trump want to run against. Don't know how they are doing it but something is going on.

(4,959 posts)In the 2016 primaries, his support from Black Dem voters was significantly less than Clinton's, of course, but it wasn't nonexistent. In some states he was getting 30%+ of black voters.
In the last 4 years, he's been schooled hard on issues of intersectionalism, on the confluence of race and class, by his young supporters. You can hear it in his recent speeches and interviews. He has learned a lot, and many POC are on board with him.
This didn't happen overnight. This whole primary season he has had POC support and it has grown steadily, particularly among young voters.
Black voters have indicated that electibility is a high priority when choosing a candidate. Early on in this primary season, that meant Biden. Now that it is clear that Bernie is as electible as any other Dem candidate, more and more Black Dem voters are preferring him.
If it looks to you like it happened overnight, you haven't been following the polls or talking to Black Democrats. The media continues to parrot the lie that he has little to no support among POC in general, and he's been polling well above 40% among Hispanic Dems and inching into the 30%s with Black Dems.
